Connect (Japanese: コネクト Konekuto), the opening theme of the winter 2011 anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The song is done by ClariS, a duo of anonymous high school girls who go by the pseudonyms Alice and Clara. Due the popularity of the series, several MADs (parody videos) and tegakis (re-drawn openings) have sprung up on both Youtube and Nico Nico Douga.
ClariS by themselves are immensely popular due to their song Irony used for the opening of the anime Ore no Imouto, but Connect has also become a very popular song.

The opening aired along with the first episode of Puella Magi Madoka Magica on January 7th, 2011. It is rather notable that many changes were made to the opening as the series continued. Many fans speculated that it had to do with story-related events, but it largely turned out that most of it was due to a low animation budget on behalf of Shaft the famous and notorious animation studio behind series like Bakemonogatari and Hidamari Sketch.
(Below contains spoilers for both Episode 10 and the Drama CD)
Other notable things about the opening is the black cat seen with Madoka was originally not planned for at all and just somehow thrown in. Later on the cat was given a name and a story through one of the drama CDs for the series.
The cat, named Amy, played a large role in series of events that set the stage for the story of the anime. In the original timeline when Homura first met Madoka she was already a magical girl. In the drama CD it was revealed that Madoka saw Amy about to get run over by a car and she made a wish was to save Amy’s life. Homura and Madoka became friends because Homura was moved by Madoka’s kindness. When Walpurgis Nacht happens, Amy leads Homura to find Madoka.
Another important note is the revelation in the tenth episode that Homura was actually the main protagonist of the series. The lyrics of the song were largely about her story.
Covers taken from Nico Nico Douga
Due to the popularity of the song, many amateur bands did their own covers and remixes of Connect. These have been uploaded to both Nico Nico Douga and Youtube. Tegakis for this opening are also quite popular and several of these have also appeared on Youtube and Nico Nico Douga. The hand drawn version shown above is one of the most well known versions.
