“Peter watches The Ring video” is a result of one of the myriad of cutaway gags Seth McFarlane inserts into Family Guy. To set up this gag, Peter complains that he would rather watch the video from the horror film The Ring than the airshow he was attending. In the gag, a girl warns Peter that watching the video will kill him. Ignoring her, Peter watches the tape only to find that the tape is actually the film Mannequin. Eventually, Peter is seen dead on the floor with a look of horror on his face.

Peter Griffin: This is boring, I’d rather be at home, watching that video from The Ring.

Girl: Peter, don´t. They say that if you watch that video, you die!
Peter Griffin: Ah, that’s a lot of baloney.
[As the girl runs off, Peter inserts the video, which starts playing the movie Mannequin, accompanied by “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship. The next shot shows Peter laying dead on the ground.]

Derivatives

Most derivatives of this meme involve Peter viewing several different videos, like the Rickroll, Chris Crocker, or Hannah Montana. However, most of the videos were uploaded in 2009, three years after the initial broadcasting of the episode.
