”Ping Ping Pong Pong, Unparalleled In The World” the 7th season (Chinese: 《乒乒乓乓天下无双》第七季) is a song produced by the Chinese Central Television (CCTV) for bolstering the morale of the Chinese representatives who are attending the 2011 World Table Tennis Championships (2011WTTC) held in Rotterdam.

Origin

Since 2005WTTC, which was held in Shanghai, CCTV made songs for every year’s WTTC in order to bolster the morale of the Chinese representatives. All the songs make for the WTTC are called “Ping Ping Pong Pong, Unparalleled In The World” with a season number behind it, counted from 2005. For 2011WTTC, CCTV also made a song for it, called “Ping Ping Pong Pong, Unparalleled In The World” the 7th season. On May 1 2011, the song was debuted on CCTV-5 (Sports)’s Sports News.

Because of the poor singing of the table tennis players and the cheesy lyrics of the song, right after the MV was aired, the song was widely being discussed and criticized on Sina Weibos (microblogs).

Li Wu-jun, a senior table tennis reporter of CCTV, posted a Weibo right after the MV was aired, regarding to the song.

The 7th season of “Ping Ping Pong Pong, Unparalleled In The World” has been aired in the Sports News. Who do you think was the player who performed the best? What do you think about this season? Never mind, I’m ready for the criticism.

Eventually, more and more criticism emerged to the internet in a few days. Later, Li was being interviewed and responded to the criticisms from the Chinese netizens.
