Single Mom is an image macro series often used on 4chan, featuring a photo of a depressed mother with a blurry male figure in the background. The overlaid text is typically meant to portray her internal monologue, and describes the various crises she is dealing with in her life.

Origin

The image is a stock photo available for purchase from Corbis called "feuding couple in the bedroom".^[1] The date this became available is unknown.

It has been claimed that the image was first taken from the Spanish health website Vital Vibe Life. On an article dealing with human menopause and climacteric issues, the image is used to illustrate a troubled person with this problem.^[2]

Image Macro

It's first use on 4chan is unknown, but by April 2nd, 2010, a Memegenerator page for "Single Mom" had been created. As of April 2010 it is in the "fail tier".^[3]
The image macros are often accompanied by debate over the ability of a single mother to raise children,
although,these are mostly for trolling purposes.
