Skifcha (also known as “Dubstep Hipster Cat”) is a male siamese cat who is known for starring in the dubstep dancing video titled "stereo skifcha" and his signature white paper craft glasses that have been featured in a number of his videos.
Origin
On May 23rd, 2011, Russian photographer and animator Denis Borisovich began posting videos of his cat Skifcha wearing the white paper craft glasses on the video sharing website Vimeo.[1] The first upload, which accumulated over 1.2 million views within 9 months, featured Skifcha performing a parody of the dramatic prairie dog video.
Spread
On November 20th, 2011 Borisovich uploaded a video of Skifcha with another cat named Sky. On February 15th, 2012, a video titled "stereo skifcha" video was uploaded which featured Skifcha dancing to a dubstep song called "Swag Music"[9] while wearing his iconic glasses and a white paper craft mustasche. Within a month, the video accumulated over 2.7 million views and 7,700 likes.
The following day, the Internet humor sites The Daily Dot[8] and Laughing Squid[7] posted articles about Skifcha's videos. On February 17th, the art blog Awesome Robo[6] posted an article titled "Skifcha: Mysterious Russian Hipster Cat", which claimed that the cat was building a large following overseas. The same day, the web culture blog UpRoxx posted the "stereo skifcha" video calling it "nightmare fuel." On February 18th, the same video was posted to the tech culture blog Boing Boing[4], which linked to Skifcha's other videos as well as his Facebook[3] page.
On February 20th, one of the first parody videos (shown above) was uploaded to Vimeo by David Mullen, which featured a clip of two owls edited to appear as if they were dancing to the “Swag Music” dubstep song.
Skifcha-related posts have since made their way to Tumblr[2] under the "#skifcha" tag and a Skifcha Facebook[3] page has 10,428 likes as of March 16th, 2012.
Notable Videos
Other YouTubers started to make Insane Edition remixes of the "stereo skifcha" video and parodies featuring themselves and other animals.

The art sharing website deviantArt[10] has several Skifcha inspired fan art submissions featuring the cat wearing its white paper glasses.
