SmarterChild was one of many chatterbots available for AOL Instant Messenger and Windows Live Messenger, but has gained the most publicity. Chatterbots were mainly created and intended to use for research and information. Whether it was wondering about the next Texans game, or the factorial of 72, SmarterChild always had an answer. The only exception is when the topic had to be about suicide.
Renowned for his random (and sometimes idiotic) replies, SmarterChild was owned by Colloquis (formerly ActiveBuddy), who makes Automated Service Agents. Microsoft acquired Colloquis on October 12, 2006, and SmarterChild was from then on owned by MSN and the i'm Initiative. Unfortunately for the company's users, in November 18, 2008, AOL and other Instant Messaging systems needed to shut down the program. They probably didn't foresee one user holding over a quarter-million conversations at once. From then on SmarterChild has proved most boring.
Either way, he's got sass.
