Smiling Man a very basic method of trolling in which you enrage other users by referring to Trollface and other memes by an incorrect name.

On the 12th of April 2011, the reply "smiling man" was posted to the question "What is your favourite meme /b/?". This instantly sparked a combination of outrage and a flow of more misnamed memes to appear in the thread. Along with "Smiling Man", there also appeared "The blue haired guy" (Milhouse), "Running bear" (Pedobear), "Potato Man" (Forever alone), "Rabid Dog that gives good advice" (Insanity Wolf), and many others.

This appeared to be a extremely effective method of trolling, as those posting were genuinely outraged that their precious memes were being misused by these "obviously non-4chan users", and defended the use of correct terminology for the memes.

The practise of calling a meme another name in order to troll someone seems like a meme itself to me.
One thing, it was never called smiling man. And this already has a page. just stop.
While this entry itself is garbage, I think Tomberry is onto something. If someone could pull together different instances of calling a meme by the wrong name intentionally we could have a decent entry. If the "Smiling Man" thing is true it should be mentioned in the Trollface entry.

This is about trolling people by purposely using the wrong name for a meme. I have personally seen this plenty of times, albeit a couple years back, on /b/, mostly as pedobear = running bear

I am Running Bear. I play tag with children. That is why I am running so much, and not fat like Lazy Bear. Sometimes, I am stuffed teddy bear in kid's rooms, because I cannot run forever.
