How do you like that? They finally give Spike his own song and he botches it.

Seriously though, this was a pretty good episode considering all of the hype placed around it in the last season. This has, without a doubt, been my favorite season so far. Let’s hope that the finale is just as well done as the rest of the season.

IMO, I thought it was good that the writers didn’t show a lot of the Equestrian Games action. If the whole episode showed 15 minutes of Equestrian Games and stuff like that, it would be a bit repetitive and tedious. I’m glad the episode showed a bit of Spike’s role and his fame in the Crystal Empire.

Oh my God, did they really just build up all this hype for the games just to have it be about Spike doing irrelevant shit? That was without a doubt the most disappointing episode of the last 6 seasons.

Over on /mlp/ an anon posted a photo of a large cardboard cutout Dashie in a mall. In true 4chan fashion, everyone ignored the cutout to talk about an irrelevant fire extinguisher, also in the photo.

From there, /mlp/ declared the extinguisher best pony. They shipped it. Ponified it. Made greentext stories and fanart for it. Made a whole range of ponestinguishers and so on.

Really good episode. I got the vibe that it was an allegory for drug abuse since something that was “supposed” to make a character feel better ended up spiraling totally out of control and affecting the people around her. But maybe I was looking too deep. I really liked it, but I was disappointed that it didn’t lead up to a duel between Rarity and Twilight.

That and the resolution came way too quickly. I seriously almost though it was going to end with the Dark Magic carrying over into future episodes.

1. It’s probably best that Twilight and Rarity didn’t end up dueling. If that had happened, people would have complained about Twilight stealing the spotlight again, a la “It Ain’t Easy Being Breezies”.
2. Who says the dark magic won’t carry over into future episodes? It couldn’t have gone back into the book, since Spike destroyed it, so after being expelled from Rarity, it floated away to parts unknown.

So I watched the new episode, and I gotta say, Rarity’s got horrible taste in renovations when her idea of improving everything is just make it shiny and covered with jewels. Edward Elric has more taste than her. And he made a baseball bat with his face on it.

P.S. Sorry to those that thought that Rarity was gonna be possessed by Chrysalis….okay, no not really, you really thought they would pull that for any episode that’s not a premiere or finale?

You know, the recent episode reminds me of that one episode of Ed, Edd, and Eddy, where the Eds have to go through a long and tedious trading process in order to get eggs for the omelet.

Does anyone else remember that episode?

If this episode had just focused on Dash and Flutters, it could’ve been a whole lot better. But as it stands, it feels like pointless filler to me, even more so than “Castle Mane-ia”. Twilight is really the only exception, though I find it odd they waited this long to have her do something princess-y. Better late than never, but still…

Also, did anyone else think the beastmaster looked like Kratos? I wonder if that was intentional.

I think I just realized something out about Rainbow Dash in this episode. She only has about 3 defining characteristics that could be of any use in a story because no one wants to know about how she leaves a rainbow streak everywhere she goes Flying, Wonderbolt obsession and fan of Daring Do. No really, those are the only things to her. I’m pretty sure Daring Do was only added to keep her from being a repeating record. So much for being deep, complex characters huh?

The episode was…pointless actually. Nothing was really solved or even at risk. It was a preschool moral on all sides. But it’s not like anything matters besides potential reaction faces.
