About

What Do You Meme is a party game featuring Cards Against Humanity-styled cards. The object of the game is to pair captions to pictures of famous memes, essentially creating an image macro. Winners are chosen by a judge that changes each round.

History

What Do You Meme was created by Elliot Tebele, Ben Kaplan, and Elie Ballas, the team behind the Fuckjerry social media accounts in May 2016. On June 14th,[1] they launched a Kickstarter to fund the project, and within four hours had achieved their goal of $10,000.

Two days later, Fuckjerry uploaded a video to explain the game to YouTube. The post (shown below) received more than 43,000 views.

The Kickstarter fundraiser ended on July 19th, 2016, receiving more than $229,000 from more than 5,000 backers.[3]

On December 16th, the final batch of games for Kickstarter backers were shipped, fulfilling the orders of the 5,000 backers.

Reception

On June 17th, 2016, the game was reviewed on Smosh Games' "Game Bang." The video of the Smosh team playing the game received morethan 1.1 million views in a year and a half.

On December 24th, 2017, Redditor [5] Trekkie45 posted a negative review of the game in the /r/boardgames subreddit, receiving more than 580 points (86% upvoted) and 170 comments. They wrote:

"I can't believe stuff like this is published. I had seen this in stores and didn't think anything could be this unoriginal.

"Basically, you have photos of memes without text. Other cards are mindless dirty jokes. The cards that get chosen, apples to apples style, are never related to the photo, just rather which one is dirtiest.

"I'm all for filth, but this is just the stupidest thing ever."
