The Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger is the jinx of the 2010 World Cup. Every team that he supported was eliminated. The curse began on June 26th, when he joined Bill Clinton on the support of the U.S team in the Royal Bafokeng stadium and the americans lost to Ghana in overtime.
The following day, he traveled to Bloemfontain to support his home team, England, and the team was thrashed 4-1 by Germany.
By then, brazilians knew that they were next (Jagger has a son, Lucas, with brazilian model Luciana Gimenez) and that the jinx rumor was almost turning into a fact. On July 2nd, it became true. Brazil fell 2-1 against Holland in a match that had dominated in the first half and in the second, was beaten by their own mistakes. Shattered Brazil fans immediately took to Twitter, blaming the singer in such numbers that they quickly made “Mick Jagger FDP” (Mick Jagger SOB) the top trending phrase worldwide.
As Brazil was out of the competition, the only hope left for brazilians was that Mick Jagger would support Argentina. And he did.
On July 3rd, Germany sent a humiliated Argentina back home with an easy 4-0.
Brazilians are now referring to Mick Jagger as a synonym of bad luck and everything he supports, touches or takes part of are cursed.
On the video above we hear Galvão Bueno, brazilian sportscaster (“Cala boca Galvão”), talking about the curse during Brazil x Holland. He says he doesn’t believe on Mick Jagger’s bad luck “Let him cheer a lot for Brazil!”. Shut up Galvão meets Mick Jagger curse.
