About

"They See Me Rollin" is a popular catchphrase derived from the rapper Chamillionaire's 2006 hit single, "Ridin,'" whose chorus goes, "They see me rollin', they hatin, patrolin', they tryna catch me ridin' dirty." Soon after the single and video were released, people began spoofing the song in image macros and video parodies.

Origin

"Ridin'" was released by Chamillionaire on December 13th, 2005.[1] The song is about how police hassle him in his car trying to find illegal materials but fail (shown below).

Spread

Due to the song's popularity, it was parodied in numerous image macros and video parodies, often by pairing the chorus' lyrics over non-threatening characters (image macro parodies shown below).

The song also inspired a bevy of video parodies. Of these, the most famous is Weird Al Yankovic's "White and Nerdy," which gained over 147 million views since being uploaded to YouTube on October 17th, 2009 (shown below, left). The song was also notably the music for Luigi's Death Stare memes. On June 9th, YouTuber i6Hitman posted a compilation of Luigi's Death Stare moments set to "Ridin'," gaining over 2 million views (shown below, right).

The song was also popular on YTMND, where it was used on sites with various people driving a car, people or cars getting drenched in mud or other dirty substances, or in videos depicting racial profiling.[2]
