Origin:
On September 05, 2006, YouTube user standalonecomplex88 uploaded a video called “This video is better than the Godfather”, containing Miho from YuGiOh! hitting herself with a yo-yo.

Spread:
The video only got about 9000 views, but it eventually received a follow-up in 2007 from KingStegBlob, also called “This video is better than the Godfather”

The video received 160,000 views and almost 300 video responses. It became traditional to make videos called “This video is better than (Cool or popular game/movie)” with one tiny clip in it, or sometimes just one image. There are now hundreds of these videos on YouTube, some having over 300,000 views.
