On Oct 28, youtube user NigaHiga (Ryan Higa) – the number one most subscribed user of all time – posted his 100th video entitled "Off The Pill – Dancing". In the video he complained about tne numerous number of new dances emerging that were hard to learn, and thus set off to create his own – which he called 'Top Raving'.

The original video can be found here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pszRSF4qwc

He asked his fellow youtubes to support him in this new form of dancing by voting for him in a 'Just Dance' competition. Soon after the video was post – with over 1 million views in 2 days – people of all demographics went out to vote for him and created their own videos of themselves 'Top Raving'.

As of the 30th of Oct ( with 5 days of voting left) Ryan was the number one most voted for the Just Dance competition with over 23,600 votes. The next contender, Victor King, had 3,800 votes.

The dance consists of a firm up-right stance with the hand crossed (palms down) to make a platform at chin level. The dancer then swings hes arms down – straitening them to make almost a triangle – while bringing one leg just in front on the other, just tapping the toes on the ground. The arms come back in front of the body (but this time at stomach level) with one hand in front of the other and are then thrown back again to recreate the triangle. Every time the arms come in and out, the feet swap positions, taking a half step back and then tapping the other foot in front. During the dance the head stays still and emotionless. All movements are done very ridgedly and fast as one cycle is done in one beat of modern Disco house music such as Barbra Streisand by Duck Sauce.

The popularity of the dance probably came from its simplicity to learn and the strong effect it has with fast, strong beats. The main reason it became popular and went viral is because of Ryan Higa's immense popularity among the internet community.
