The term “Woll Smoth” refers to any image of a person (usually a celebrity) that has been photoshopped in such a manner as to shrink the size of the eyes and mouth.
Origin
According to ED, this meme started when the Will Smith page on Wikipedia (they call it TOW) was vandalized with the original Woll Smoth image, and the title changed to reflect how one with such a small mouth would speak. Wikipedia has the proof that this happened here. The first instance of this was March 13, 2008, 4 months after the first sighting on Google trends. So ED is incorrect.
On ED there was an article called “Solobrities” here is the talk page that shows the meme was created around November 2007. This talk page confirms the link between the two.

In terms of scale, interest in “Woll Smoth” is about equal in scale to Cockmongler, and Epic Fail guy, two notable 4chan memes.
Encyclopedia Dramatca’s earliest mention of “Woll Smoth” dates back to February 20th, 2008.
ED called “Woll Smoth” a forced meme, and “the cancer.” Those labels have stuck on their entry to this day.
However, as we can see that the meme has continued to endure for well over a year, the act of shrinking the eyes and mouths of celebrities has become self-propigating; making it a meme.

Google Insights for Search shows that interest in “Woll Smoth” started in December of 2007. Activity for “Woll Smoth” peaked on July 5th, 2008, but has continued to draw search results to this day.

Okay, I’m going to clarify all of this. Woll Smoth was inspired by a picture of Emma Watson I saw on 4chan, where she had a shrunken face. Anyone who has lurked enough would have seen this picture of her many times, and will know which one i mean.. so.. at the same time there was a ton of that fresh prince intro song crap kicking around on the boards too so I think subconsciously it made me choose his picture to fuck around with.
Now it’s funny that someone saw the connection with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, and they are spot on. There’s some Vic Reeves artwork somewhere with eyes almost exactly the same, and it was in my mind when i made the picture.
I made it in like 5 minutes and threw it up on /b/, along with a couple of others “fronds”, “tom honks” and other people began to join in, after an hour or so, the thread died, and that was that. After a couple of hours I’d completely put it out of my mind, until what might have been a few weeks or months later when someone linked me the pic all like “haha look” and I’m thinking, wtf?? I thought it had died ages ago and i was shocked to say the least.
