About

Popularly known as “WoW Freakout Kid” or “Account Crusher”, this viral homemade video (5 million+ views since May 2009) shows a teenage boy named Stephen reacting rather violently in privacy (or he thought) after his mother cancelled his World of Warcraft online account. The video was supposedly filmed in hidden-cam fashion by Stephen’s brother (a.k.a wafflepwn), although many have expressed their doubts over whether his ranting was staged or not.

Derivatives & Remixes

Regardless of its authenticity, the video has spawned off a series of remixes and parodies on YouTube, including several derivatives authored in foreign languages as well.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. Even if it turns out to have been staged, that doesn’t change anything. Angry German Kid was staged too, but it was still huge.

easily a meme, but this looks staged as hell, even if it wasn’t this is how i would expect a hardcore WOW fan to react to such a situation.

The official account, wafflepwn, uploaded a sixth video that not-so-subtly confirmed that they make staged videos. He removed it, probably because his subscription count was sinking fast. However, someone else was smart enough to make a copy and upload it on their own channel.

Fake or not, it’s things like this that make me glad I’m not associated with WoW anymore. From now on, It’s strictly TF2 for me.

my take on the mothers response is that explains the ones where its just the child on his own but it doesnt seem likely that the mother would go along with it beign staged when she is screaming at him when he’s being betrayed or smashing up a truck. I think this interview is her just trying to preserve the image of the family.

The account cancellation thing? People love those videos. Equally, they love listening to others get kicked off by their mothers, whether it’s WoW, RuneScape, or any other game they become obsessed with.

The above is a player getting kicked off World of Warcraft by his parents. Good stuff.

I hate these videos, but everyone else seems to like them.

I mean, sure, I love seeing a guy flip out as much as anyone, but you have to think about the situation.

For one, the family is obviously rich, owning a Hummer, and a $35,000 Challenger, and paying for WoW accounts. The kid is obviously spoiled, and his brother is no different. In his later videos, he purposely ticks him off to give teh internetz a laugh. He’s ruining his brothers life, and his brother is a loser at the same time.

Anyone else notice how in the original video the brother manages to quickly place the camera on a level location, without knocking anything over, with a clear view of the entirety of Stephen’s freakout, and without his brother noticing it? Furthermore, in the truck video, why didn’t Stephen go for any of the windows?

In the first one I recognize that scream, it’s real. This is what happens when a kid with aspergers syndrome (or something similar) has a “meltdown”. Think having all negative emotions invoked at once towards the person that caused said state, usually involving screams and the occasional string of sounds that sounded like words. How would I know? ’Cause I have had moments like that.

Take this situation: A kid(me)is obessed with sitting in a certain seat in his parents van. Then one day he doesn’t get to sit in that seat, meltdown insues. We get home and try to get to my room so I can go have a moment in my room like above kid. Dad intervenes and won’t let me into the house unless I calm down. Instead of using the unlocked side door to get in I settle for repeatedly throwing myself at the door (I used my shoulder, not my head). Then my dad (who at that point did not lock the keys on his phone) accidently had his pants dial 0 on his cell phone. Then while my dad has probably a very interesting conversation after the operator got his attention (I was only told this afterwards I was busy throwing myself at the door still) and then I was informed that the police were coming because of the operator had heard me screaming. Cue panic, which actually seems to be the only fast way to get a kid out of that state besides exhausting themselves. Nothing really happened, a police cruiser came, they checked things out, wrote their report and left. Now with nedications and proper exposure to social situations I happen to be semi-normal and have not had a fit for eight years (I would be normal but that isn’t related to this).

I pretty sure that being in that state he would not of noticed that camera, and if the brother had learned of this beforehand he probably could of had a chance to setup before his brother found out. Could be fake but that is exactly like one of my “meltdowns” complete with the face into the bed thing.
