YouTube Interactive Games are videos that use linked annotations to other videos that continue the story different ways. The types of games vary, but the “Choose Your Own Adventure” type of interactive game is the most prominent.
Origin
When YouTube implemented it’s annotation system in June of 2008, people began making videos with several choices linked to videos with different outcomes.
One of the first games to take advantage of the new annotation system for an “Interactive Magician” by YouTuber werneroi. The video was uploaded along with an interactive card trick.
Popularity and Spread
Other interactive videos would go on to become popular like smp film’s Interactive Fortune Teller that currently has over 2 million views.
Patrick Boivin’s “Youtube Street Fighter” has over 8 million page views and hundreds of different choice combinations.
