About

Zutara is a portmanteau of two names showing "Zuko" and "Katara", the main characters of the TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender on Nickelodeon, shipping together. Users, who think Zuko and Katara are the perfect binding couple, are called "Zutarians".

Origin

Before "Zutara", there was a relationship of Mai and Zuko according to the last few final episodes of the TV series.

On March 6, 2005 FanFiction.Net user Alimoe^[1] wrote a romance story article titled "Stuck with You" about a love story of Katara and Zuko, which the article became very wide spread then.

The first use of the term "Zutara" was coined in a main description of a LiveJournal.com community called katara_zuko^[3], that was made on July 26, 2005 by LiveJournal.com user littlebratt^[4]. In the main description, there is written:

Zutara is our fandom's love
[Insert hearts here]

Zutara Week

The "Zutara Week"^[5] is one of the most popular fan-fiction groups on deviantART.com. The official founders of the group are GreenifyME^[6] and trishna97^[7]. "Zutara Week" is an event, which users create their videos, music, pictures, animations etc. for a certain week in every year incl. each day having a different topic.

The first day of the "Zutara Week"-Event with the first topic "Denim" began on July 7, 2008.

Zutara vs Kataang

There's a flame war between the Zutara relationship and the Kataang (Katara and Aang) relationship. Many Zutarians posted, that the Zutara relationship would be more interesting and romantic with a little "Romeo and Juliet"-twist in it.
