I would be impressed if they followed the rules of PEMDAS in the second equation. You must always distribute the 2 to the result of the equation in the parentheses(12) before doing anything else. So therefore 48/2(9+3) will ALWAYS equal two. The only way you get otherwise is incorrect and cannot be used.
