I think she’s one of the most well developed and complex characters I have ever seen on TV. She is a very talented and tough fighter, but at the beginning of the show she is completely naive because she has apparently never been let out of her village. The first season to me was all about her facing her spiritual and mental immaturity in spite of her strength.

It made complete sense that she would be devestated when she had to experience how horrible her hot-headedness and could back-fire and how much she still has to learn. That doesn’t mean she is powerless or weak, it means she is growing up.
