About

Bwahaha! now my profile has BOXES!

Hey KYM, wazzup? if you don’t know me, i’m an avid Brony who mostly hangs out in the Photo Galleries. in terms of where i stand on ponies n’ stuff, i’m really into the extraordinary artists who have created so much amazing content for the MLP fandom, from music to videos to fanart.
space
i’ve always been really interested in memes and internet culture, i think it’s really fascinating to find out how things spread and mutate, like a big mystery puzzle. when i discovered KYM, it was like coming home to a big extended family i never knew about. i love all you, you guys are great.
space
besides my obvious affinity for net culture, i’m also an avid gamer, primarily in the Indie and retro circles.
oh boy, here we go!
the abridged version is that i was turned into a brony almost instantly. an acquaintance on a forum mentioned bronies during a discussion, and i asked him in a separate Private Message what a brony was (since i had never heard of them before). in response, he sent me a link to the first episode, and i was quickly hooked. a week later, i had seen every episode. this was back in mid-June 2011, so i joined the fandom near the beginning of the epic wait for Season Two.
space
personally, i think it was a fantastic time to have become a brony. not too early (all that chan-ban drama, no developed fandom infrastructure or identity), but also not too late (i was able to be there for a lot of the early content and artists, back before things got drowned out by giant floods of content).

who else?

space

as i stated in my introduction, i’m mainly into PC games, primarily in the retro and indie circles. i still love consoles, i just haven’t had any big reasons to play new games on them. i grew up as a Nintendo kid, my first console was the N64. later we got an XBox and a 360 as well, but we’ve never owned a Playstation.

will be expanding later once i think of stuff

Holy shit that actually kinda scared me.
I suddenly have a new appreciation for being born in an age where I don’t have to worry about being something’s lunch.

That sounds terrifying!
It’s one thing for an alternate universe self to drop into your world and perhaps swap bodies with you, it’s a different thing altogether for them to possess you!

Now I’m imagining some kind of fan-made “brony cut”, in which some fan editors recolor/skin the entire movie so that everyone actually looks human.
I’m sure it’d be an instant improvement.

Y’know, over the last couple days I’ve actually rather cooled down a little bit regarding my personal opinion on the matter of EqG’s probable quality, and I’ve found myself at least beginning to accept things as they are without wanting to tear my hair out.

However, that movie as represented by that trailer certainly is not “fine”. Decent, maybe, but not “fine”.
I can understand the desire some fans have to find every reason to love anything show-related, I want nothing more than to love this show. Despite this, I’m not going to delude myself.

EqG is not fine. It might be able to earn my acceptance, but it’ll be very, very difficult. I suppose the main problem for me is not even directly EqG itself. My problem is with the fact that we could have had such a better movie instead. In EqG’s place, we should be celebrating a real MLP movie, one that actually involves the ponies in Equestria, the setting of the show!

To me, EqG will always be a wasted opportunity.
Sorry.

Commented on Yes, Bronies clearly know exactly what Lauren is thinking at every moment.

The difference is that Galaxy Girls actually looks good, it doesn’t dig itself so deep into the uncanny valley it hits China.
Equestria Girls just looks so… meh. It’s just LPS with weirdly-colored anthropomorphic characters. It doesn’t even deserve to be called a ‘humanization’, because I certainly don’t see any humans in the movie (except perhaps for Brad, who actually looks like a human just with a ridiculous hair-style).

I remember some people pointing this out within days of the episode’s original airing.
Never saw the follow-up though, interesting to see Sibsy’s response to this.

Rather unfortunate that she didn’t get in the episode.

Though, when you really think about it, Twilight really shouldn’t be trying to eat with her mouth. She’s a unicorn, and we’ve seen ponies using utensils before.
It’d make a lot more sense if she was just failing to use her hands properly.

@Short Circuit
The point is, there’s a difference between liking something in the fandom, and liking something in the show.
Some things are better as imaginative make-believe, just because I love seeing ponies drawn as humans doesn’t mean I think it’s a good idea for that to happen in the show.
Fan content isn’t permanent. If someone draws Twilight battling Celestia, it doesn’t become a part of the canon, and therefor we can do things and explore situations that can’t or shouldn’t actually happen. Fallout: Equestria, would be another example.

Considering that Twilight shouldn’t have a nudity taboo (or at least, it wouldn’t be very well ingrained yet), I doubt she’d even really care about something like this happening to her.
The violation of personal space would be more bothersome to her than the revealing position.

Despite the rather out-of-nowhere character introductions that happened in Canterlot Wedding, I give it a free pass (and in fact consider it one of my favorite episodes) because of a few major reasons:
1) Cadence’s introduction was handled brilliantly, by playing off of our very prejudice by making Deceptive Cadence a very hate-able character. Then, they revealed that this cadence we had quickly grown to hate was actually a doppelganger, and the real Cadence was actually pretty cool. Thus we got to have our cake and eat it too.

2) Good songs. Unlike MMC, Canterlot Wedding knew the meaning of the term “over-saturation”. It had just the right amount of songs, spaced apart properly so that they didn’t trip over each other in their mad scramble for screen time.

3) Changelings. Holy shit do I love the Changelings. From the basic concept of love-stealing, shape-shifting insectoids, to the huge battle that ensued during their invasion, everything about those things was pure awesome.

4) bonus points are given for Canterlot Wedding actually feeling like a season finale, since it was a two-parter with an actual rising action and climax. MMC was so short that the conflict resolution gave me whiplash.
