I don’t even want to know. Does anyone have any idea if these might possibly be related incidents? I just can’t fathom the astronimically terrible luck required to have two horrible events of this magnitude happen so near in time to one another, without it being purposeful.

Bwahaha! now my profile has BOXES!Hey KYM, wazzup? if you don’t know me, i’m an avid Brony who mostly hangs out in the Photo Galleries. in terms of where i stand on ponies n’ stuff, i’m really into the extraordinary artists who have created so much amazing content for the MLP fandom, from music to videos to fanart.
i’ve always been really interested in memes and internet culture, i think it’s really fascinating to find out how things spread and mutate, like a big mystery puzzle. when i discovered KYM, it was like coming home to a big extended family i never knew about. i love all you, you guys are great.
besides my obvious affinity for net culture, i’m also an avid gamer, primarily in the Indie and retro circles.oh boy, here we go!the abridged version is that i was turned into a brony almost instantly. an acquaintance on a forum mentioned bronies during a discussion, and i asked him in a separate Private Message what a brony was (since i had never heard of them before). in response, he sent me a link to the first episode, and i was quickly hooked. a week later, i had seen every episode. this was back in mid-June 2011, so i joined the fandom near the beginning of the epic wait for Season Two.
personally, i think it was a fantastic time to have become a brony. not too early (all that chan-ban drama, no developed fandom infrastructure or identity), but also not too late (i was able to be there for a lot of the early content and artists, back before things got drowned out by giant floods of content).
spaceas i stated in my introduction, i’m mainly into PC games, primarily in the retro and indie circles. i still love consoles, i just haven’t had any big reasons to play new games on them. i grew up as a Nintendo kid, my first console was the N64. later we got an XBox and a 360 as well, but we’ve never owned a Playstation.
will be expanding later once i think of stuff

Wow. I’m…. truly at a loss for any meaningful words. I’m a little too shocked right now to help look for more information (this is my first time being online since the event took place, so it’s all a bit too much for me to handle all at once), but perhaps in the coming days I’ll try and drop in with anything I find. Just posting here to express my support for all the people currently in the thick of this mess, and by extension to all you guys here and elsewhere sorting through what’s happened.
It’s all right. I didn’t do a good job of indicating what I was talking about. Sorry about that, hehe.
Not you, I was speaking of the Original OP. As in, the guy who “started” this meme. It was a joke.
Sadly, we’ll never know who it came from…. The OP turned off his computer and was never seen again.
… not that there’s anything wrong with that. Though I was surprised on how quickly this discussion went from linguistics, to percieved brony masculinity. It’s kinda like Godwin’s Law with ponies. Does the act of brining up Godwin’s Law, fulfill the conditions of Godwin’s Law? Hmmmmm.
Damn, I was totally gonna post that Spacejam website, but the OP beat me to it! That’s basically the only one I know. I’m actually pretty young to the Internet, since I was only born in ’96. Still, I faintly remember some random game websites kids would play around with in class back in Elementary School. Wish I could remember what any of them were called. However, I can contribute with one thing: the TV Tropes page on Geocities has a link to a massive online archive of different sites within the domain,...
This guy is full of win. What an awesome idea for a creative resume! I’ll maybe help out around the entry, if there’s anything I see that I can do.
I’ve always wanted to know what that term meant, and up until this point was too lazy to track down a definition. Thanks, KYM! From what I’m getting in this thread, it sounds like circlejerking is what most of the Internet does on a regular basis. Simply due to its very nature (no barriers between movement of people and ideas, so like-minded individuals almost invariably cluster around each other like droplets of water in oil), people in fandoms or websites of homogeneous user-bases get together and...
Windigo the plot device wrote: bq. I’d say “Prince Mia Lucente Corazza”, meaning “My shiny armor” in Italian. I think it matches well with the name “Princess Mi Amore Cadenza”. hmmm, i suppose that sounds pretty good. but it doesn’t really fit with the theme i’m trying to achieve. to explain a little more thoroughly, i’m writing a fanfic in which Twilight wakes up in an alternate universe in which she is the Princess of Equestria, and her faithful student is a pink-maned pegasus named Sunny Skies....
hey guys, i’m working on something and i had a question: if Shining Armor was an alicorn (hypothetically let’s say we took a trip to an Alternate Universe where he is an alicorn), what would his name be? i like the name Eos for Twilight (Greek Goddess of Dawn), so what would be her brother’s name? doing a little research, i came across a couple ones that would fit well. Helios would make sense from a geneology perspective (brother of the Goddess Eos). another (which i’m rather leaning towards at this...
you’ve got my vote. i watch the Colbert Report on a fairly frequent basis, absolutely love that guy.
what bothers me most? auto-playing ads that have audio. there’s nothing more annoying while browsing than to randomly hear some chick talking and have absolutely no idea where it’s coming from. bonus points for when the ad is on a tab you haven’t touched in 15 minutes, and it takes you forever to realize this. other than that, i really like KYM. pretty much the first site on my daily list of regulars.
as a person who’se never used a Textile-based post/comment system before, this would be really, really nice. i’m still trying to figure out textile (just learned how to do my own quotes today, lol), so being able to preview everything would be awesome. it’d also give me a place to practice and experiment too, since i don’t really know of anywhere else to try things out. the lack of a way to preview posts is half the reason why i still have never really spent any time in the KYM Forums.
Verbose: It seems to be borderline. I don’t think it could hurt to report it and then see what the admins say. As for me, a Lysol autoplaying ad just came up for me. In fact, it’s the third different autoplaying add I’ve heard today. However, since I had different tabs up, I couldn’t find (or remember) the ads for the first two, and I don’t remember in what detail the Lysol ad was for (I didn’t paste the screencap before copying olivia’s post…)KYM must have a ton of different advertisers coming through...
so i just got back from PAX Prime today, and let me first just say… what an awesome experience! now, i could ramble all day long about how awesome PAX was, and i probably will on my wall (since i love to hear myself talk), but i’m bringing the event up here because of some very encouraging things i noticed in relation to the fandom. to provide some background context, i was also at PAX Prime 2011, and while there i only saw a grand total of two bronies among the crowds. there were a few more Enforcers...
i like this, thank you. i’ve always had trouble finding entries unless i knew the exact wording, so this will certainly help that quite a bit.
that’s alright, thanks anyways :) you should play it, i highly recommend it. did you play any of the Civilization games? in particular, SMAC is very much like Civ 2 (one of my favorite titles from that series). well worth a play through. haha, i remember Pirates and Golf. Sid Meier’s games all have very cool styles that draw you into the game. very enjoyable.
i have two quick questions for you all: 1. has anyone here (or any bronies you know) played Sid Meier’s Alpha Centauri? i’m working on a crossover fanfic and i want someone’s feedback and advice on a couple points. 2. does anyone know of a good online gif-maker, one that’s free and creates decent quality resolution? i don’t need any text embedding for what i was thinking of doing, and all i need is one that allows for 10 seconds. i’d really like it if it didn’t leave a watermark, but i can live with it...
