Boys, So I recently started & finished watching Trailer Park Boys (yes, it’s overdue and yes, I got hooked immediately) and after some googling and tumbling, I found a few GIFs and screenshots that I’ve seen for some years, including the famous BUMP GIF image: I’m familiar with the show’s cult status in Canada, but do you think there’s an online following that’s notable and sizable enough to write a subculture entry about it? Or am I just getting giddy about my new favorite show.

From a quick Google search, it seems like the Defonic Crew (a.k.a Defonic Team Screen Name Club) had earned its share of notoriety during its active days. In addition to the 2005 Paris Hilton sidekick hack, Cameron “cam0” LaCroix was also found guilty of hacking LexisNexis that same year, and another member John Kenneth Schiefer (a.k.a “acid” and “acidstorm”) was tried in 2007 for infecting more than a quarter million computers with malicious software and spyware. Does anyone have a good idea of how...
The entry is up & running, it could still use more research on spread & timeline though: KYMdb – And In That Moment I Swear We Were Infinite
on certain holidays and weekends, I set the alarm for early o’clock, just so I can wake up, turn in the f**k off and go back to sleep forever.

Yeah definitely, we have a few entries that pertain to Omegle.
Hello KYM researchers, I would like to start a new group discussion & research project to expand our coverage of notable websites, online communities (and some web-based apps) in the meme world. You can find the list of all site entries in the database here. Now, as for site entries we’re missing, please keep the following in mind when submitting ideas: A site is defined as a website (ex: Gawker), online forum community (ex: 4chan) or media/service platform (Tumblr, Instagram) that has played or...
So just to be clear, are you looking for ones that are presented as advices or persuasions regardless of their validity (ex: Courage Wolf will tell you to do things that you probably shouldn’t, Did You Know images facts are absurd), or are you looking for examples that easily convince people into action because they’re held to be true or useful in life (ex: Lifehack or )? Either way, this seems like an interesting research topic.
Okay, so you might have heard about BuzzFeed’s unflattering screencaps of Beyonce during her halftime performance on Super Bowl Sunday, and how her publicist has accidentally barbara streisand the whole thing. We’ve all seen similar “ill-timed photos” of athletes from the 2012 Olympics and I’m pretty sure capturing & sharing photos of celebrities in an unflattering way has been a thing for sometime (ex: “I came”, Crying Dawson). I’ve also seen similar screencaps of Japanese / Korean idols being...
Here’s the entry in progress, if anyone wants to add more things: Beyonce’s Illuminati Sign
Here’s the entry, if anyone wants to add more things: The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker
Here’s a Facebook status update attributed to a Caleb “Kai” with last name blurred out (via BoingBoing)
This hitchhiker guy named Kai is getting hailed as a hero and the next viral video celebrity for his epic witness account in a local news story from Fresno, California: As seen on the KYM frontpage and lots of other places: It made the rounds on several news sites and blogs yesterday, there’s a Facebook fan page and a few remixes already on the rise. Anyone interested in starting an entry for this? UPDATE (6PM): Staff is currently working on an article. You can still help by posting any information,...
somewhat related, illuminati references have been used by Jay-Z and many other recording artists:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illuminati_in_popular_culture#Music
The obligatory go home, you’re drunk: Conspiracy Keanu chimes in:
I also feel like I’m drawn to people with lots of poop, but for me, I don’t think there’s such thing as “too much.” IMO, I’d rather be in a relationship with someone who’s very open and transparent about having copious amount of poop to deal with than someone who keeps some of her poop hidden in the closet, only to find out after we’re already in too deep. Oh and HBO subscription is crucial.
So some of you might remember that last year, we started an annual awards event to recognize and celebrate the best (and the worst) of music and dance videos on the Internet. Well, it’s that time of the year again and I figured this would be a good time to survey your thoughts on musicians that we haven’t covered yet, but should be profiled as #person entries and nominated for this year’s awards. List away! UPDATE (2/5): Here’s an outline of this year’s award categories & nominations. Got suggestions...
I’d be happy to help on this one. I’ll look into any copycat pages that might have gone up since this this one went viral.
There’s a story that’s been going around about New Line Cinema purchasing the movie rights of an illustration art depicting a teddy bear confronting a monster. (Betabeat / Daily Dot / Geekosystem) The original artwork was created & submitted by a DeviantART user named begemott (Greek software engineer Alex Panagopoulos) in October 2006. Seen any derivatives, parodies or other signs of a meme? If you know what this is about, please feel free to start an entry or contribute to research in this thread.
