Listen! A history on Pony flame wars
I sense the war has migrated.
Interesting fact: EverybotyNetwork.net just solved the pony flood problem today…. In an odd way.
Lots of trolling happened, where the haters hated more and more as their numbers shrank.
In the end it looked like it was about 50-50, as compared to 80% hate – 20% love when it started.
The admin declared images on both pro-ponies and anti-ponies be simultaneously banned… Now everyone’s fighting over who was the most butthurt before it happened.
Look at all the Bronies on THIS site, I’d have to say it’s 80% love and 20% hate, and since people are more likely to start loving rather than start hating, the meme database is doomed unless pony images to existing memes are downright denied.
Having a secondary database doesn’t work. (ponyspot was made as a lolbot spinoff – failed to pick up)
Asking to ignore and move on will NEVER work. They feel that it’s killing their favorite sites.
Coming up with a good solution could put the conflict into temporary peace… for example, I suggested a filter to hide tags that a user didn’t want to see, and people liked the idea. After a month of waiting, it still didn’t happen and the hate war was back.
I hope the experience I pass on will be of help. I really don’t feel like belonging to two websites that are in such terrible conflict over a fad.
IT IS DOWNRIGHT IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE BRONIES STOP POSTING
IT IS DOWNRIGHT IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE HATERS STOP HATING
THE ONLY TWO WAYS ARE:
1. COMPLETE EXILE OF BOTH SIDES OF THE PROBLEM
2. MODIFYING THE SITE IMMEDIATELY TO ALLOW CERTAIN TOPICS TO BE HIDDEN
Dear Princess Celestia,
Today I learned that the internet has an immune system, and once you make too many friends, there are still thousands ready to make you stop. The technical term would be a ‘Monomeme’ – when it gets too big, you find that it may still have enough people that feel threatened by not having any memes that do not associate them with it, and they are ready to pounce. I have found that while it may be perfect and peaceful behind closed doors, like a site that was made for it, sites that still hold other popular internet culture will become unforgiving.
Your faithful student, ShoutingRyan.
