About

4channer since Oct 2003. Invented “/b/tard” in Dec/Jan2004 after seeing someone use “/b/astard”. Wrote the first 4chan-specific tripcode generator and cracker. Currently serving 4 concurrent permbans. Scored the 50k and 200k LoliGETs on /g/. Early OS-tan importer.

You’re off by about 20 years.

I’ve never seen ‘Teal Deer’ used before during my long adventures on the Information Superhighway. That needs verification of widespread usage.

According to the timestamp filename (1098396938207.png), this was posted on 2chan back on 22 Oct 2004.

It’s got in-joke rather than meme status, imho. I haven’t even seen this on Twitter.

Commented on Numa Numa.

No mention of the 2ch Flash meme maiyahi.swf from early 2004 that Brolsma ripped?
The original became such a big hit, the ‘Dragostea din tei’ group did a concert in Japan.

I’d date the idea starting in 2004, back when 1chan was about the only other English chanboard around.

You could say it’s as old as the “Press Any Key” joke. I remember pics of the same around the net pre-1992, and drawn cartoons about fake keys were around in the early-1980s computer magazines.

Maybe note that there’s no real consensus on the post-XP tans-- by that time, it had ‘gone mainstream’ in the Western fan sphere, and every DeviantArtist was vying for InternetCelebrity trying to force their creation as part of the Meme. The fad had passed-on in Japan when Vista was announced, so they never had an ‘officially accepted’ Vista-tan or the like.

Sorry, correcting myself-- it was ‘You tit-goblin!’ in the precursor screencap.

Great, Xydexx is on the site. He’s one of the nutters who camps on Wikipedia editwarring everything that mentions negative information on the group. You might want to permban the freak now.

History: “Cockmongler” was discovered and introduced to the wider world by the epic old tripfag SovietRussia.

Commented on Mega Milk / Titty Monster.

“Titty Monster” was already a regular expression on /a/ from a much older screencap of a girl tell another off for being an “oppai bakemono”, which the fansubbers gave as “Titty Monster”.
