Yeah people get a little obsessive… the only downside to the fandom is that it’s so infective. But once you watch an episode you don’t really care, haha. I remember when I hated it… I thought it was literally 50,000 gay guys… then I watch an episode and I instantly realize it’s amazing.
Same with Doctor Who.

So I saw you were wondering how/why ponies became so popular on the Chocolate Rain article, and thought I should reply here instead.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic was written by Lauren Faust, who was known for her work with Power Puff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. Both were previously popular with many boys as well. There is a complete story of how it became so popular in the article, so you can look at that for the “How”, but WHY it is so popular, is because the development team wanted the little girls’ fathers to be able to watch the show with them and enjoy it, so they decided to put guy jokes in there (the first 15 seconds of episode 16 contain a very obvious sexual joke). They decided it would not simply be colors and ponies to stare at, so they added a plot and stayed true to cartoon animation and physics, which give it a Tom and Jerry, Ed, Edd, and Eddy, or Spongebob type feel. It is very hard to put emotions or thoughts into word, so I suggest looking at an episode or two, just to check it out. I would suggest skipping the first two episodes, introductory and they are the “color and ponies” episodes that fulfill Hasbro’s wishes for the girls.
