This is hysterical. My old math teacher used a variant of this to teach us Order of Operations : 1 + 2(3) = ?. It’s far more concrete than this one. Use PEMDAS or BEDMAS you will get 7. Don’t, and you’ll get 9. The equation, 48 / 2 (9 + 3) = ?, is far trickier, and designed to foment arguments. As many have mentioned, division and multiplication really aren’t that different, yet the results, very much are. Personally, I’ll stick with BEDMAS.
