Not much to say. I like miniature magical equines and I find internet culture fascinating. I also may or may not enjoy furred anthropomorphic animals.
I program a little and draw a lot. But more than both those things, I play video games. TF2 mostly. Gotta get ’dem purple hats.
My mother has family there still.
Just the size of this thing, it’s absolutely horrifying to imagine.
Well, yeah. It’s sad females have to hide or downplay themselves in games to not be given shit. It’s really upsetting, not something I WANT to do, and I honestly don’t “endorse” it.
But the fact that advice I gave is usually what most girls do? Yeah, it really sucks.
The reason why I personally do it is because most ‘gurl gaimers’ and even some regular female gamers unknowingly pour gas on the fire by going “WE GURL GAMERS EXIST, PLS GIB EQUALITY!!!!” It perpetuates the loud obnoxious attention-seeker stereotype, even though they’re trying to be treated normally. Most of the time if they say anything about wanting to be treated normally, well… it just gets ignored and flames the fire more. And it’s why we haven’t seen much progress, I think.
I personally think it’s not really hiding unless you outright claim yourself as male instead of female. I don’t CORRECT people if they call me male (hell, I got called a little boy JUST last night in TF2 and just went with it), but if I’m asked if I’m female I’ll say yes and leave it at that… and it’s really no the right thing to do. But I want to minimize the attention on me and more on the game, and I think some other female gamers have the same mentality.
It’s a terrible way to go about gaming and I agree – I hope the days come where that won’t be necessary.
Oh, and cookies to you for giving a well-written respectful rebuttal. That’s something I never see in discussions like these ever. Have some internet points.
That’s the other great thing – no one will really give a shit if you’re a great player. Which is really what gaming is about in the first place.
10, 15, 16, 21. Not really that much of a ‘moralfag’ but I think supporting game developers is important.
I wish there was an ‘indiefag’ archetype on here, but games=artfag is close enough.
This is why I don’t even tell people I play video games anymore. The whole GAIIMER GURRRLL thing has gotten so bad I’m ashamed to talk about video games since that’s the first image that usually comes to peoples’ minds. The whole “you’re playing vidya for attention” thing. Not that, you know… I’m playing games because games are fun.
Here’s some advice for anyone trying to avoid the ‘girl gamer’ shitstorm: if you ever want to have a good time in any game server, DON’T tell anyone you’re female. In games without microphones there’s no need for the clarification, and in general on the internet it’s unnecessary unless relevant to the conversation. If someone refers to you as a “he” or a “him,” just ignore it and don’t bother correcting them. Trust me, it’s made a lot of my gaming experiences a whole lot more fun and less of an annoyance.
Why didn’t they use this face?
Anyone gonna add info about the recent “sponsored ads” posts showing up in user feeds?
Not sure if it’s important enough to the article, but I’m seeing a mini-shitstorm over it right now. Probably could be added to the Yahoo Acquisition part of the article since it only started showing up after that.
The least Disney could do is give her royalty credit and apologize, but I’m not entirely sure that will happen. I hope they at least stop selling the bag.
By the way guys, a character being ‘public domain’ does not mean an artist has no rights to it. Content is irrelevant when your work has been stolen or misused, it’s still YOUR work no matter what the drawing or painting contained, even if it was copyrighted.
You don’t own the rights to the characters, but you certainly own the rights to the effort and style of the illustration.

Paradox recently did a parody of this for their two-year anniversary of Magicka.
I guess that’s a derivative.
… am I honestly the only female who finds these pretty funny?
Then again I’ve never really had a problem with ‘sexist’ jokes. I think it’s fun to poke at flaws or stereotypes both genders have, and getting bent out of shape over some stupid image macros is pretty stupid.
Guys put up with a lot of shit from us girls. ‘Men are pigs/dogs,’ etc… I honestly think it’s pretty damn unfair to pull the double standard and not let them make any jokes about the strange logic, or occasionally lack of logic women have.
Oh yeah, +1 confirm.

I say +1 confirm. First new rage face that is actually pretty funny. Plus I LOVE this dude.
Mullets, mullets everywhere.
Oh, and on the “Hot Topic using /b/ to cash in” subject… you COULD say that Know Your Meme is doing the same thing, but at least KYM has the decency to not use the original meme images, limiting how recognizable it is to those who actually know the meme. Hot Topic was, quite frankly, doing it wrong since they didn’t even get the number of Fs and Us in the image right nor its placement. =/
I’d sooner buy a shirt from KYM store anyway…
I dunno about this. I /do/ know that this actually happened because of all the Facebook posts I saw recently, however. (http://www.geekosystem.com/hot-topic-ends-fffuuuuuuu-shirts/)
Give it time to spread, I say. If the ‘Hot Topic is Racist’ meme catches on I’m gonna laugh my ass off.
I can see the opinion on this seems pretty mixed.
Personally I think it’s a meme because even though it’s had its share of IRL and media exposure it is still very prominent on the internets. A lot of things start IRL and go Interwebs meme anyway, so why is this an exception? I see it on YouTube and Facebook comments constantly.
+1 Confirm, although I agree it should be renamed along the lines of “You sir, are X” or combined with “You Sir”.
I swear I’ve seen this fad everywhere on YouTube. I think image derivatives would make it more of a meme and less of a ‘phrase,’ but it’s still spreading nonetheless.
- the first one entitled “SSH WTF MESSUP” I mean. The other one is Gmod.
Just a minor correction, here. That’s NOT a Garry’s Mod video. It’s a mod of Half-Life 1, and I think it’s called Scientist Slaughterhouse.
Love this meme. It was my favorite part of the movie and I’m actually surprised it caught on to the internet.
Disregard last comment, I missed that you mentioned Prince of Darkness.
It’s practically everywhere on YTMND; I’d say it’s a meme.
Just add in the actual movie it’s from and add a little info on its origin and original derivatives.
+ 1 confirm.
