According to the original definition, they are zombies. The original definition was synonymous to mind-control, but it was not limited to just living beings. The modern, more popular definition of a zombie was created after the release of the original “Night of the Living Dead” by George A. Romero, where the dead creatures were simply called ‘ghouls’. As time wore on, though, zombie and ghoul became interchangeable, until ghoul was no longer in common use.
It also reminded me of Ivy from Soul Calibur.
