About

I’m one of KYM’s long-time users. I started back in early ’09, and stuck around because I like learning about the origin of my favorite jokes spread through internet culture.

I’m also an aspiring musician. This song is a work in progress, but it’s my most complete song so far. I’m hoping to finish up a project worthy of Balloon Party, but I’m still pretty new to this, so any critique would be appreciated!

Getting the new Borderlands for 360.

I also hooked up that Turtle Beach headset correctly and got it working on my 360, but the damn thing nearly made me deaf. Gonna have to fiddle around with the setting later…

I can’t say I’ve ever seen that. That is interesting…

But as far as weapon proficiencies go, I really only neglect shotguns, and even then, only because most of those suck. Still, when I find a decent Death or Hunter’s Shotgun, I tend to use them a lot.

I really see burst fire rifles in Borderlands as being larger akin to revolvers, especially with higher accuracy models and ones with good scopes. Some of them, like certain really good Hyperion Pounders, border on being genuine sniper rifles at times. But that AR520.G I described? Never actually gotten my hands on one, but I’ve made one with the gear calculator I shared. It seems like it actually heavily outclasses even the absolute best Atlas revolver I can generate, an AX300 Pearl Justice with the stabilizer attachment.

Another thing I want to mention is that I really enjoy SMGs for some reason. A top of the line Hyperion Stinger can run a 58 round drum mag(before clip size boosting skills and/or class mods), reload in about a second(before proficiency bonuses) and have an accuracy rated at 94.9. The absolute best, with the Vector attachment and the HX body style, will run a 16.6 or so fire rate, too. That’s a lot of highly precise lead.

If you just treat burst fire rifles as larger, more potent revolvers, they’re great. They do good damage and have pretty good reload speed.

For the record, I use pretty much anything I can get my hands on, so my weapon proficiencies tended to stay relatively low. Well, that, and the fact that I earned more EXP from quests than kills by cherry picking low level quests to do first to level up, rather than simply kill grinding.

I have to disagree about the burst fire rifles in the game: You get your hands on a good AR-body type battle rifle, especially with a good, highly accurate barrel and high zoom scope, you can lay waste to large swaths of Pandora. A top of the line legit Hyperion AR520.G Crimson Cobra with the Deathly attachment will get six bursts of three rounds each down range on one mag, with each bullet doing as much as 360+ damage. That’s well over a thousand damage per pull of the trigger, and with Hyperion’s recoil reductions, it’s pretty much like firing a revolver, just even more powerful.

Also, for the record, though I admit that I like the Call of Duty series, I prefer Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon. Still, it uses real world hardware, so your point still stands.

Wait a sec, am I reading that right? A Dove with a Hornet’s mods? Holy shit. I guess I’ll have to keep an eye open for Hornets, then.

Yeah, kinda sucks that they’re not adding cryo munitions to the sequel.

I guess my standards for precision are just too damn high, but I’ll admit that Dahl make decent guns. They just don’t stand out to me. Likewise for S&S.

I can’t say I’ve ever gotten my hands on a Hornet, though. What’s so special about them?

I really use three out of the four as far as elemental weapons go: fire(bandits, zombies, smaller skag, most other forms of lightly armored organic target), corrosive(Crimson Lance, spiderants, larger skag, most other forms of heavily armored organic target) and electric(highly shielded targets, such as Eridians). I just have never found explosive weapons that useful.

Huh. Don’t think I saw that at first. Or that. Or the veins on the…that.

You’re welcome. It’s how I knew for a long time that an Evil Harpoon is possible, and that if you see one you shouldn’t scream HAAAAAAAX!’ right off: it’s likely legit.

Personally, far as I’m concerned, Hyperion, Atlas and Maliwan are the only manufacturers worth a damn far as weapons are concerned. Tediore’s line of health regenerating shields are pretty good, though. Maybe not the toughest or quickest recharging out there, but the health regen they bring, especially if you find a high end Panacea Shield, can make you very hard to kill.

Reason I don’t care for most of the other manufacturers weapons is because they usually aren’t as accurate as I’d like. Vladov and Torgue especially suffer from this. Jakobs ZZ material grade guns are the only things that can challenge Hyperion as far as accuracy goes, but they have horrible firing rates and terrible recoil. Jakobs XX material grade guns have poor accuracy in general.

I guess I just like picking off my enemies before they have a chance to see me. Must be why I’ve always enjoyed sniper rifles in games.

As for elemental weapons, I personally just use whatever’s good against my current targets. Surprisingly(or maybe not, considering Mass Effect 2) incendiaries work very well against the heavily armored Crimson Lance soldiers, their Pyro Troopers from “General Knoxx” not withstanding.

I have a Wikidot page, it’s basically a weapon construction system for the original Borderlands; it even tells you whether a given gun is possible.

Here’s the page. Granted, it only goes to 61, but it works. Has everything you could ever need to build the ultimate weapon. It even lets you build shields, though it doesn’t have support for Class Mods.

Personally, I prefer Hyperion. Precision, speed and capacity combine to create the deadliest weapons on Pandora. Because if it took more than one shot to actually hit what you were aiming at, you weren’t using a Hyperion.

However, Hyperion doesn’t make everything. They don’t make machine guns, for instance(not SMGs, full auto combat rifles). If I can’t have a Hyperion in a given class, I’ll generally go for an Atlas. They’re very well rounded, not sacrificing in any area.

Other than that, I favor Maliwan with regards to elemental guns. They have the largest tech pools and highest tech levels, not to mention that their guns are good overall, if only lacking in power due to their elemental mods.

Well I was going to do a short comic with some backstory for Chrysalis. Figure I’ll get around to it if I find the time.

But, you know, finals. :P

Actually I heard it from Futurama, to quote Fry “Bees make honey and jelly?! How come nothing humans produce tastes good?”. Yes, that is the only reason I thought of it. :P

Thanks bro, glad you like my fanon, I’m pretty proud of that one. Sure it’ll never become real canon, but I can at the very least try to get some bronies to back it with comics, fics, etc. :D

S-s-samples?! I LOVE samples! Thank you for alerting me to the existence of one. Your agreeing with the excellence of Trixie and Vriska is also wonderful.

Oddly enough, this is actually the 2nd song I’ve heard about in the last 2 weeks that samples that song! the fact that more than 1 exists blows my mind….

Ah. Here we are.

“Being a brony is a male thing.”
87% male respondents.
They say they disproved that myth.

“Being a Brony is a sign of a homosexual orientation.”
70% heterosexual, 12% bisexual (and that’s identified as bisexual, not having same sex sexual experiences, which other surveys use,) and 9% asexual, which is very high for any population.
They say they disproved that myth, and they offered support against it, but the numbers say that we are very different in terms of sexual orientation.

“As for the brony study supporting myths on orientation, I could’ve sworn it dispelled those rumors.”

It said that bronies aren’t gay. Technically, that’s true. However, only about 70% of the respondents identified as heterosexual, which is far fewer than results looking at populations at large (which tend to be around 80% at the very least, and tend to be around 90%. (of course that Wikipedia, but it mirrors what I’ve seen in papers I read in college.) That simple statement was supported, but it provides much more support that bronies are more likely to be different from an entire population in terms of sexual orientation. There were a couple of other myths that I didn’t like the conclusions of, but like you, I can’t find those results now.

I get anxious sometimes, especially when I should be doing something and other people inquire about whatever it is I am doing. So that’s why I didn’t respond. Essentially, I’m hiding from opspe and I’ve been back at home with less access to the Web/software.

But simply, I’d say opspe and I should be able to do it. I’m not thrilled about getting started on it now, but you aren’t the only person curious about the results, so I’m just going to make myself do it today/tonight. opspe wanted some information that is taking a lot of time and is very frustrating to get due to how I structured the survey, and until I do that, I can’t get started on my analysis. From there, I just have to do a write-up or two, and then I’ll be done with it. Thanks though, and sorry about my anxieties.

I’m sorry, but we’re trying to restrict access to the raw data as much as possible. My statistical software is back at school, and I won’t be back for several days. opspe can’t do his PCA until I get my hands on the software again.
If you have access to some software that can run t-tests, ANOVAs, or run multiple linear regressions, then that would be nice.

As for the Brony Study…the more I look at it, the less I’m impressed. I’d hate to sound jealous or bitter, but there are a lot of problems. They claimed to dispel myths, but not only did they not dispel them, they supported some of them (e.g., we seem to be very different in terms of sexual orientation than a randomly distributed sample.) The Ph.D.‘s behind the name (and the fact that one of them is from my alma mater) doesn’t really make me think that they’re doing great science. But they also have a different bent, so I can’t say for sure.

I’ve had a week of midterm assignments, so I haven’t made any progress since Thursday of last week. However, I still have a day where I could potentially finish my side of the analysis before I go home for spring break, but I doubt I’ll finish until late the week after next at soonest (opspe is doing some more complicated analysis.

If you have a particular question, I could answer that. I may also just release some hacked together Google-generated graphs and tables to hold people over until I can make some decent graphs.
