As of right now there are 11,595 bad pictures in the MLP entry.

I started deleting duplicates at night on 7/25. Natsuru, I checked an older copy of the database from the morning of 7/25 and compared the photos to the photos you have right now and none of them are missing. That means the only photos you could have lost were ones that you uploaded during the day on 7/25 and I did notice that you uploaded some touhou photos that day. They were most likely duplicates. As for the photos that you uploaded without specifying an entry, those shouldn’t have been removed unless you uploaded multiple copies of them.

You can now ask a forum mod if you want the first post of your thread to be editable. This should only be used for threads that are games, contests, etc. and not for threads that are just general conversation.

So on KYM you’re worried about the person you quoted changing their post, but you wouldn’t mind having a system where you could easily misquote people by attributing quotes to them that they never wrote?

Where you saved the file from or even the filename it has shouldn’t matter. If the image data is the same then it’ll be detected as a duplicate. Now if you re-save it as a different file format or make any kind of changes to the image like changing its quality, changing a pixel, etc, then it will have a different hash. I also don’t see any duplicates in Twilight Sprinkle’s photo gallery.

Just throwing some numbers out there. We have 142,857 (21.6GB) images uploaded to the site. This doesn’t count any of the thumbnail versions of each image, or entry icons, user avatars, etc. There are 13,146 (3.68GB) images uploaded to the MLP entry and its submemes and each image is an average of 294KB in size. 9.2% of all the images on the site are pony images and they take up 17% of that 21.6GB. 42% of all pony images are pngs, and that’s why the file sizes are so large.

That’s why you can only edit your post within 30 minutes of creating it.

I’ve already deleted all duplicates and the image page number disappearance is a caching bug that should be fixed now.

There will be new tabs for that under /photos and /videos once there are enough thumbs.

It’s basically a way to generate a unique identifier for data. If two images share the same hash then they are practically guaranteed to contain the same data.

I don’t like associating photos with multiple entries because it would make spamming entries a lot easier. It would also be a big structural change to the current system and would require some downtime on photo uploads for all the old photos to be updated.

This has happened before so if anyone wants to reword the message to make it clearer I’ll change it.

The text is “You may only edit a post within 30 minutes of creating it.” It’s not telling you to wait 30 minutes.
