Commented on Rape Culture

I think there is a phenomenon…possibly an amalgamation of a few different things…that tends to crop up in the wake of acts of rape. Take a little dash of conservative squeamishness towards sex, out-and-out puritanical aversion to sex, and mix it in with actual rapists trying to morally whitewash their own actions as “not that bad” and you get this…thing. “Culture” isn’t really the word I’d use to describe it, especially here in the west. Its just…complicated.

Well, Charlize Theron is by definition an African-American. So, yeah…

When I watch Adventure Time, I’m too busy enjoying magical sojourns in the Land of Ooo to care about a minor mistake like this.

Well to be fair, the KKK aren’t wearing masks per se. They’re actually dressed as spooky, scary ghosts.

Why would anyone use their shirt to mop up? Are you keeping your socks clean for a fancy dinner party or something?

I’m going to petition to reverse the vote tide on Ganondox’s original comment up here. If ZQ wants to make Depression Quest part 78 and Gojira wants to write 9001 songs about environmentalism, I’m all for it.

I don’t have to agree with the message, but I’ll defend their right to create the art they want to create. As long as they remember to respect that right for everyone else, then everything is kosher in my book. I mean, we are fighting for free expression aren’t we?

Ok, duly noted. I just have three teensy-weensy questions:

1. Who the fuck are you?
2. What piece of shit company do you run?
3. Why the fuck would I want to work there?

I’ve managed to avoid having kids for the last 13 years of my adult life, but my wife AND mother are putting my feet to the fire. That lego guys face…that’s gonna be me in a year or two.

I wonder if it depends more on what genres of metal you listen to. I’m kind of a metal hipster (but not a real hipster. Ok, sometimes I drink PBR, but that’s because its cheap! I SWEAR!) so I’ve always tended to seek out the weirder, more avant-garde stuff and perhaps my pseudo-left-libertarian political leanings are reflected in that.

Perhaps more “mainstream” metal fans do have a bit of a tendency to lean right politically. I could definitely see bands like Metallica and Pantera having a large portion of their fanbase hailing from rural, heavily-conservative areas. And then there’s bands like Avenged Sevenfold, who are openly Republican (and I’ve personally never been a fan…coincidence?)

I remember coming across marijuana-scented incense in a store once. Talk about entirely defeating the intended purpose.
