Textile for Dummies

First, I google all the names that a meme goes by, and read what other press have said about it.
Then I look it up in ED, Urban Dictionary, Lurkmore, Uncyclopedia, whatever other references may have researched it before.
Then I do a Google Insights analysis comparing the terms to see if I can find a beginning date that people first began searching for it. Google Insights doesn’t represent when t first occurred, but when people took interest.
From there I do a “Specific Date Range” search under Google’s “More options” feature, and use the beginning of the trend as my end date, with the beginning generally set to the Year 2000, or prior if the meme seems to be older than that.
From there, I then sort through the search results and try to narrow it down to the earliest appearance. But Google’s date range search feature isn’t perfect because most blogs tend to show up with the date they were started or first archived by Google rather than when the phrase first appears. Forum signatures also lead to a lot of false results. (I pray that we never add signatures here.) It’s kind of a hit-and-miss method that’s better for memes with more unique names.
For memes that are more obviously 4chan-related, checking is usually handy.
And quite often, during all that searching, I end up finding interesting posts in other forums that look like the origin, and then I try to get in contact with the poster so I can ask them questions directly. This is how I found the origin if "every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten.
This is why I always stress for people not to ask “is this a meme” and instead only submit meme entries based on what they already know. Otherwise, they can sit in Submissions for a VERY long time.

You joined 12 days ago and you’re worse than a bunch of Brand New Members spamming made-up memes.

If you are going to contribute to the entry do it by adding facts or information. Try to encourage users instead of insult them.

I never saw SAO so I don’t know how good or bad it may be. I’m neutral towards the show. I just jumped in the hate train because it’s fun to see everyone’s reaction.

The thing is; if you like SAO good for you. If you dislike it, thats good too.

Learn how to ignore stupid criticism and you will be fine. Taking everything so seriously (and especially anime) is stupid.

And yeah, my parents didn’t teach me manners.

Alright, you all have been warned. That means if I see another one of those images in the gallery, I will delete it.

Oops, my bad.

But like I said, those images won’t pop up as suggestion in other images because they have no tags and trust me, I checked. In the case of the “Most ___ gallery” that’s a problem beyond me, it depends more on the activity that a gallery/image has.

But in most cases, from what I can see, goes like this: people finds about this entry and sees the gallery, they comment about how horrible it is thus, they make it appear on the trending bar. More people finds about the entry and sees the gallery, they comment about how horrible it is. Suddenly, everyone forgets the entry until another user finds out, the cycle starts over.

Your point on the “Little Girls” thing and, to be honest, it was a coincidence. I realized after I posted the message.

The “You Might Also Like” option works by reading the tags one image has. This gallery has no tags whatsoever so the system, instead of searching by tags, searches using the name of the entry.

¿My point? Since all the images of this gallery has no tags you will only see images related to “Lotus Pod Holes”. If you see an image from this gallery, the system will automatically show you images from the very same gallery. They won’t appear somewhere else unless they were tagged, which I won’t do so they won’t pop up as an option in other images.

I agree that we should have a report system but I doubt that is going to happen. Alternatively, you can report them via PM or by using the IRC, which is the fastest way to get something done.

There are two warnings, the second one explains it pretty well: “this entry may be unsafe for you and can create a similar effect as gore or shock images. Please view with caution.
