I don’t know how to speak or write Japanese, but it is one of my goals someday.

First, decide which one you want to play: the official English GBA game, the official English DS game, or the unofficial English translation of a PS1 game.

Then download an emulator (and maybe other things) corresponding to it
GBA (http://vba.ngemu.com/downloads.shtml), DS (http://www.ndsemulator.com/), or
PS1 (http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/psx/epsxe.html).

Then, download the rom of the game: just google “Super Robot Wars/Taisen xxxx English rom” (x is the name).
GBA (Super Robot Wars: Original Generation 1 or 2)
DS (Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier)
PS1 (Super Robot Wars: Alpha Gaiden)

I don’t know if Alpha Gaiden is already translated or if you will have to download a translation patch as well. Probably one the Original Generation games would be easier.

Now you should just have to unzip/extract the rom files. There are many easy to follow guides online, and you will probably need a file extraction program like 7zip or Winzip. I may have skipped a step somewhere, but everything is pretty easy to download and there are plenty of FAQ’s online.

One of the only games that have been unofficially translated into English is SRW Alpha Gaiden for the PS1, but I haven’t tried to download it yet because of school work. From the videos, pretty much everything is translated, so that may be a better starting place.

Of course, playing it on emulators takes away one of the best details, at least for me in D. I can’t get the replay (new game +) feature to work, which lets you replay the game with all your upgrades. Also note, that technically emulators are illegal, but what isn’t illegal on the internet nowadays.

Anyway, I wish you luck. Just write if you have any questions.

However, many play these games on some kind of emulator. For example, three of the games that I’ve played (D, A, and J) have been played on a GBA emulator. There are also DS and PS1 emulators but I have not really tried one of them yet.

Of course, this doesn’t really help the language barrier one bit. For me, I started with D since it contained some of my favorite series and found a partial english translation patch. This would probably be a good place to start. It translated the unit names, effects of the spells/senien, and the menus; the items, pilot names and script weren’t translated but it did affect my gaming fun. Once I memorized the placement and rhythm, I just had to look at online guides for some translations in other games.

I’ll start with the bottom question first. Sadly, there is little to no chance for most the SRW games to ever have an official English release. This is because of the numerous copyrights involved with every series in the game, which isn’t as hard in Japan because of most are owned by only a few companies; only one game has ever had all the series licensed in the US.

Two games that contain only original characters has been officially released in the U.S. One is for the Game Boy Advanced and the other is for Nintendo DS.

“this might be a good beggining if you want to get into touhou”
Can’t you tell by my profile picture that i’m already a touhou fan? I’ve beat Touhou 7, 8, and 10. I’ve played a good bit of their fighting game, Megamari, Touhoumon. I have watched thousands of touhou related videos. I am already a pretty huge fan. Thanks for the links but this is DEFINITELY not my first touhou.

….Well, I’ve kinda already seen the series and the second movie; still good description/summary though. But I didn’t know that the movie’s Super TTGL was that much bigger than the regular TTGL. I think Ginax just wanted to one-up themselves by making something bigger than the Gunbuster.

Also that picture of Lord Genome made me lol so hard.

Sadly, SRW Z2.2 only cover’s up to the battle with Cathedral Lazengan from the second movie. Instead, we fight the Anti-Spiral who’s piloting a warped version of Gurren Laugann. Kinda anti-climatic except that Simon somehow saved Nia with Spiral Power. She might turn again in the next Z game though, since the Anti Spiral didn’t die:

Although I’ve only played two all the way through (two others conked out after a few missions), I personally love the series and wish I had a PSP to play the newest games. SRW are massive crossover games where quite a few mecha series get their plots mashed together to varying degrees. They are turned based strategy games where you control can individual units or teams (depends on the game) from the series and battle against the villains of the series and, usually, a set of game-exclusive enemies. Maybe not the best description, but that’s the best I can do.

I know about Gurren Laggan, who the hell do you think I am. Always willing to hear more though. TTGL even appeared in both parts of the last SRW games (SRW Z2).

Hm, if I start telling where I get my gif and image files from I might have some competition… although I do save them in a folder on my computer. Alright, i’ll give you the link, but I just hope this doesn’t get me excluded from the Bronies as the guy who ONCE was the Dragon Ball Z image and gif guy.

Hmmmm, hard to hear, but maybe it’s cause that mishearing is new to me, I always hear
‘No mercy, Have mercy, no mercy on your soul’
But the most ‘misheard’ lyrics are when a Justin Bieber song comes on the radio, between the few secs I change the channel I hear just ‘Ima Faggot, Ima Faggo,t Ima Faggot, someone please kill me’
:D

So I was telling to my dear friend Grimdark that it sounds like their singing the word brony, for sure it can’t be since that song is from 2005, but hey, i also understand at kinda 0:28 ‘And then he threw a Bulbasaur’
There’s always place for some misheard lyrics^^
