Commented on Oh God! I Can See Forever!

My Lovecraft Library is severely lacking, so I can’t back this up 100% without heading to the library, but…

While “I can see forever” might not necessarily be a direct Lovecraft quote (my gut says it is), the idea is definitely very Lovecraftian.

Azathoth, one of the Outer Gods from Lovecraft’s stories is described thusly:

“Outside the ordered universe, that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity--the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes…”

Infinity, Chaos and that which is empirically unknowable by human beings are at the center of Lovecraft’s particular brand of horror. This being the case, making the leap from I can see “beyond time and space” to “I can see forever” is a small one, methinks.

If not textually linked, this meme and Lovecraft are – at the very least – clearly thematically linked.

Commented on Jesus is a Jerk

I always knew this one as “Jesus is with you always” or “…always with you”.

Either way, needs some edits but +1 confirm. <3 this one.

Commented on Googlewhacking

The most interesting thing about this is that the nature of Googlewhacking’s spread has caused a fair number of the Googlewhacks to no longer fit the GW criteria due to blog / media coverage.

One could argue that each specific previously-successful Googlewhack is more memetic than the practice Googlewhacking itself.
