Black Cat Mansion = 黒猫館 (Kuronekokan)
The little Bird in a Shell = 殻の中の小鳥 (Kara no naka no kotori)

At least, this article needs to mention about how Maid as a character-type in Otaku contents was established and reputation of Maid outfits in moe trends of job/school uniforms, represented by “Welcome to Pia Carrot!!” series and “Night Shift Nurses” series in late-1990s, and the history of cosplay.

Here is a detailed explanation for the history of Maids in Japanese Otaku/Moe culture which was written by an amateur researcher for maids & butlers culture in the Victorian Era. According to this, notable events and products which brought Maid and its costumes up to the icon in the culture had been released between mid-80s and late-90s. Particularly, “Black Cat Mansion” (adult anime series,1986), “The little Bird in a Shell” (adult game, 1996), “Di Gi Charat” (promoting mascot, 1998) are very important products. But it’s quite difficult to explain how and why these are important and noteworthy because it require us much larger view for Japanese pop&sub culture for understanding it.

Of course, it can’t cover all of the history yet though it’s a quite huge document. We have to refer several more academic books in media sociology (eg. “Animalizing Postmodernity” by Hiroki Azuma).

I don’t think KYM needs to host this entry. Indeed, Maid Outfit is one of the very important items in the Japanese Otaku culture, and has so long and complex history which deserve to be documented in English by some online media project. But we have to do it all by ourselves because there are no reliable English references about it, unfortunately. And even if we succeeded to finish it, there are no internet memes which requires to cite it.

Putting that aside, this should be a subculture entry because it’s never a internet meme, at least. And the gallery should be locked before it comes to a mere warehouse for “Maid Fuku” images.
