“AA-j the Zapdos (nicknamed Air Jesus and Anarchy Jesus)”

I still prefer Double-A Jesus. You know, like the battery.

Well, I shall interpret the down votes as people who did not receive that advertisement oh so long ago. You don’t get that advertisement anymore, I think. So, I have added a screenshot of it to the gallery here.

I don’t actually remember if I clicked on the ad to see where it led…

Yeah, I know how you feel. I, too, think of it as terrible and disgusting.

But it might have been inevitable as soon as the fandom became creative. Questionable works will push away regular members, whereas standard creative works won’t an effect on the deviant members. Deviant members are likely to be verbal, too. So in basically any creative fandom there is probably going to be a disproportionate deviant representation.

But hey, fandoms as a concept are kind of silly anyways. Just think if there was a fandom for something everyone liked and had ready access to, like oxygen (the gas). Heh, they would probably call themselves oxybros or something (This aside brought to you by the HTTP protocol, along with the rest of the page. Unless this is the future and you are accessing this from an archive in an FTP server or something. In which case, there may now exist an organized oxygen fandom, and if so, I…I don’t know what to say).

I’m not sure why people are burying your comment. Here have a free up vote.

Btw, I like your avatar. It’s ye old “mastodon of pain”, Bubbleman (I would be surprised if someone got this reference).

However, I will agree that there are still good people. And there are interesting things being created. The overall community has changed, though.

(And I just noticed that I accidentally undid the correction of wether to whether when I finally posted that last message. Darn.)

Reasonable is one thing (questionable wether several of the “chan” members are), but it isn’t enough. One can be reasonable and yet care nothing for another soul.

When the fandom was starting out, I thought of its members as some of the nicest people on the internet. They welcomed newcomers and converted ignorant trolls with patience and understanding. And more importantly they seemed to understand the purpose of it all was simply fun. FIM was just a show, a show they liked.

But now the community is divided and polarized. It has a rather substantial population of deviants, who you probably wouldn’t want to mention to your grandma, or anyone for that matter. And some members take things a bit too seriously. It is not exactly inviting.

I would say you are bit late to the party, but there was no par…well shitstorm. It just sort of happened. The general consensus seems to be that the movie was “meh”. Not notable for being really terrible or great.
But hey, we got those funny parodies on youtube out of it, so that was nice.

This is a serious question. I have been watching this fandom for a long time now. I check a few related sites basically everyday, including this site and Derpy Hooves News. Occasionally, I also look at the more popular posts of Equestria Daily. Recently with Equestria Girls being released I have been watching the reactions of the “chans”.
So if there are other places I really should be giving attention, then please tell me. I would appreciate it.

Do you imply that the fandom that started about two and a half years ago still exists?
Back when I found it, the people involved had several traits that caught my eye: kindness, respect, and a healthy disregard for their own public image. Now, I can only speak from my own experience, but I no longer really observe these from the brony internet community. So, I must say that, at least from my perspective, the fandom that I once knew is already gone.
No offence, but the current state of the community isn’t exactly my cup of tea.

Just thought I’d share that, for some reason.

For shame, I would have thought, within the first few hours, someone would have added the parody videos from ZXInsanity, Blarghalt, and Jake Whyman. Well, I guess I’ll go ahead and add one.

Commented on Comment Section Charts

Answering your question: This is purely comments from the main entry page.

If you would like to do image post charting, I wish you luck. It would certainly take longer to collect the data, considering there are 145,501 of them (and counting).
Looks like it might be possible by a similar technique though. The source of /memes/subcultures/my-little-pony-friendship-is-magic/photos/page/1 (and page 2 etc) has links to images in it. Looks like it doesn’t give dates though, so you’d have to inspect every image page for that.

Being a rather boring person, I decided it might be fun to make some charts of this comment section. If anyone is interested, I have posted them here along with some other information.

Language used:

Programming Environment:

Libraries used:
jsoup – for parsing html documents
JFreeChart – for rendering the charts

bronySpeak = {"brohoof",“everypony”,“anypony”,“somepony”, "facehoof"}
negativeAdjectives = {"bad",“terrible”,"horrible"}
positiveAdjectives = {"good",“great”,"awesome"}

For the word based aggregations, it only checked whether a comment contained at least one of the keywords, not how many it contained.

Some numbers:
Fetching/Parsing program number of lines – 823
Fetching/Parsing program source size – 57.5 kB
Charting program number of lines – 563
Charting program source size – 51.1 kB

first pass fetch time – 24.9 minutes
second pass fetch time – 3.87 hours (This was because there is one page per comment. Perhaps there was an easier way, but this worked.)

Compressed size of all comments – 1.8 MB
Number of comments – 19813
Number of 7-day aggregated samples – 109

Commented on Comment Section Charts

About two weeks ago, I decided to try and do charts of the comment section for this entry. I did quite a few things I’ve never done before to accomplish this, so I had some fun.
First, I wrote a program that fetches and parses the comments from KYM and outputs them to a file. Fetching occurred in two passes. The first got most of the comment details, and the second pass acquired the karma values. Then I wrote a program that aggregates values over a 7-day cycle for these comments, throws out the extra uncompleted cycle, and outputs the actual charts.
Only one unexpected thing occurred, and that was running into 7 comments that had identical counterparts. The only thing that distinguished them was the comment URL. Duplicates were removed before outputting the file.
