I don’t think you understand, because it makes money isn’t a good excuse in my opinion. Nobody should work free, but if you can’t afford to make the movie you want, then make a cheaper movie. Maybe the Expendables would have been great if they didn’t piss away their money cameos. Art > money. And not making enough money to fill a swimming pool on opening weekend, isn’t the same as not making a profit

>the escapist

Outside the super threads about gamergate, don’t expect much support from users. In typical escapist fashion, most users are 2kool4skool to care about “the embarrassing behavior of other gamers”. A few long time members follow it but most joined in either August or September, probably cause it was the only place to talk about it

You don’t have to be the same race or culture as other people in order to relate to them. I think its more interesting when you find you can relate to someone you don’t think you have anything in common with. And you’re arguing that people should only stay in their comfort zone rather than experience something different.

You’re right. Unless the protagonist is Will Smith, white people would rather see movies with white people in them and same other races. But I don’t care for movies where the producers decide its more important to make more money than make a good movie. Imagine if Quentin Tarantino decided to make Pulp Fiction rated pg13 so he could get more money

Commented on Are video games sexist?

Its all so true. I took a class on childhood and got to the topic of how kids spend their time. The study specifically cited that while equal numbers of boy and girls play video games, boys mostly play on consoles and girls play on phones. I don’t like to argue about hardcore vs casual, but I don’t think Angry Birds and Subway Surfers are capturing the female audience with their interactive narratives

I totally agree. One of those emails specifically said “every editor has the right to publish whatever they want” so its not like were coordinating all of news. And they’re right to not publish what was ultimately a tabloid sex scandal. The problem is, they chose to use their power to censor any and all discussion about it and avoid confronting the fact that its wrong for journalists to be so close to those they report about. As someone else said, no Zoe does not deserved to be harassed, but no body does. Its been recorded that she’s abrasive and doesn’t play nice with others, and her cracked article proves she’s not above bending the truth, so this was bound to happen and she doesn’t deserve to be defended from abuse just because they’re friends. Especially not from sites that use rumors for click bait articles that can and do damage people’s careers

This is why I don’t like it when people insist computers are easy to learn. I worked in tech support for 3 years. I know first hand computers run on their own set of bullshit rules. Just last week my laptop died while I was running a live usb and wouldn’t boot to an OS. I just guessed that if I went into the bios and selected the OS myself, it would boot which worked. Why did it work and how did it break? I have no idea

Commented on DDOS against Escapist

Kind of. He weighed in on the SJW definition of misogyny:

“Specifically I don’t agree that video games are misogynistic just because there are certain tropes they tend to fall back on a lot. It is true that there are an awful lot of game stories where the protagonist is male and the female character exists either to be rescued or to die and give the protagonist motivation. We’ll call that the hero-damsel narrative. I don’t think that hero-damsel enforces misogyny. After all, the protagonist, the male, is the one who has it worst. He’s the one who has to put himself at pain, and even die, over and over again, in an endless cycle of torment, for the benefit of the women. Yeah, ‘damsels in distress’ tend to be shallow characters without much agency, but who has less agency than the protagonist? The one that can’t so much as lift a finger if the player doesn’t press a button telling them to?”

I remember one of the voice actresses for Skull Girls said something like this. She said the backlash from SJW’s makes game devs avoid female characters so they aren’t scrutinized and it makes it hard for female voice actresses to find work

I’d find out who said that, but I don’t feel like it right now
