This reminds me of that one time the Powerpuff Girls beat the crap out of the entire Legion of Doom.

My briefcase full of BEES ought to put a stop to that!”

Nobody panics when memes go according to plan, even if the plan is terrible. If I tell KYM that tomorrow a teenager might kill herself, or a truckload of lolcats will get blown up, nobody panics…
But when I make just one little old typo, everyone loses their minds!

Scootaloo, what’s the matter with you?
You don’t act like the other chickens do!
You wear a disguise to look like pony guys
But you’re not a man; you’re a chicken, ’Loo!

@AC4
Not only is Celestia Moonwalking on Luna on the Moon, she’s moonwalking onto Luna’s ‘moon’ on the moon.

Maybe I’m being overly optimistic, but I feel it’s within Hasbro’s power to find some middle ground between the target audience and older fans. There’s plenty of possibilities for show-inspired toys to be made already, and it’s not like those big play sets they’re selling are going to guarantee them their maximum potential for a profit…
I’d like to think that having a great show anybody would be proud to support would work just as well as flashy commercials and over the top gimmicks… If that isn’t the case, I guess all I can do is roll with whatever they think up and either deal with it or not. From what I could tell, Season 4 shouldn’t have any controversial surprises (for now) outside of Princess Twilight, which I think is still a salvageable concept to build off of… Hopefully, everything is going to be fine in the long run…

@bronyhaterslayer
The marketing is not my main problem, it’s the angle they took with it… It’s one thing to have a show based around a toy line, but to blatantly jeopardizing the show’s quality to incorporate elements solely needed for the toy line seems pretty distasteful from the fan’s perspective.
Yes, they’ve made it work before with “A Canterlot Wedding” & “Magical Mystery Cure” (I liked that episode myself, at least) but it seems they’re really pushing the envelope as far as what they can get away with and still retain the fans’ respect.
That being said; I don’t necessarily ‘hate’ Equestria Girls, I simply do not like the marketing standpoint it’s working off. It seems like just a transparent, unsubtle and unimaginative excuse for selling toys, and the writers are all expected to make it work. They’ve never let me down before, but Hasbro could just continue calling for bigger, less inspired stories to milk out, and allow the show’s quality to rapidly decay. I believe just because they’re targeting a younger audience should not mean they can cut corners; solely for a quick profit. Not only is that sleazy, but it’ll impede the show from leaving a lasting or meaningful impression on anyone, which is something I sincerely doubt Lauren would be okay with.

At least the Galaxy Girls had more variety in their designs, and weren’t a product of capitalizing on a popular franchise with a cheap marketing gimmick… Besides, the ‘bizarre coloring’ is mostly a complaint on the “humanized pony” aspect of their character designs, not just their appearance solely without that context.
And just because another one of Lauren’s creations looks similar to Equestria Girls does not necessarily mean it shares the same core vision.
Now, I could be wrong about Equestria Girls (I’m trying to be cautiously optimistic), since Hasbro is probably ignoring the Brony demographic completely with it’s advertising campaign… In fact, I’ve never had a huge problem with what the writers were faced with working with before, anyways. So whatever the result; I can at least know they tried their best. At least we can’t expect it to be as bad as “Batman and Robin” as far as the effort put into it goes. Even with the cliched company-inserted plot elements in it, that does not necessarily mean it’s destined to be thoroughly un-enjoyable. Granted, it’s probably not going to be “Movie of the Year” or anything, but there’s still a potential of satiable entertainment value if it doesn’t exceed our worst expectations.
