The Doctor wasn’t drunk! He’d just regenerated and appeared to be in a nutritional crisis similar to that pregnant women go through when there’s something they absolutely have to eat. Some women even eat things not usually thought of as food per se, like clay or corn starch. My mother had to have liverwurst.
