I have a different take on it. I’ve always seen it associated with pictures of imminent pwnage (such as Ultimate Goatse and Siege Tank Rush above), and other seemingly unstoppable situations of massive scale; Wherever I’ve seen it, it’s appeared to have a meaning akin to “why would your god let this happen to you?” or “if your god is going to save you, where is he?”.

How does this depend on the internet to spread? It seems like it uses television and newspapers much more.

This seems like it’s on the fence. It could develop into a major meme if we start seeing it spread beyond youtube.

This is a meme how? I saw the video when it first came out, but not every youtube video is a meme. In fact, most of them aren’t.

Found everywhere in many different mediums. Derived exclusively from the internet. Referenced constantly. Totally a meme.

“Hipsters” are more of a social concept than a meme, similar to that of vagrants or tools. As for “hipster kitty”, It seems like an advice dog spinoff at best and stale knockoff at worst. I strongly disagree that this has pervaded the internet in an original and distinctive manner to a degree that it deserves to be called a meme.
