I would like to speak on behalf of my Uncle Tommy. I hope that people understand there is a family who is grieving for the lost life of this man, Thomas Bruso. He is our brother, son and uncle. He is a man that is very sick and has been using drugs and homeless on and off for years. He refuses to stick to a treatment plan which is probably part of his illness. He missed our grandmothers funeral last week because he was arrested in Colorado for drug pocession and then wehn being apprehended assaulted the officers. Our Uncle has a long history of mental illness and drug abuse. It is very sad and embarassing to our family to see the people glorifying his behavior when he needs help. He is not a Vet because he never made it past boot camp due to above mentioned problems. Please pray for him as we are.

@shinkosai That's the point, actually. You can't plagarize from ED and you can't make placeholder entries for later. It's how we uphold standards and give everyone a chance to write entries that they're interested in writing. You still have authorship credit if you can write up a real entry. See this thread for more info.

This has been interesting to watch unfold. It's a "movement" that started off as a poster (with a slight nod to the Shepard Fairey "Hope" poster), turned into a tongue-in-cheek Twilight reference (#teamcoco), and is now a Facebook group with 300k+ followers, a Twitter hashtag campaign, and now they're organizing protest rallies.

A few notes: Perhaps it's worth pointing out the cultural link between this demotivational and the IRL "gay test" memes that used to spread in grade school. (Ask someone to look at their nails. If they look at their nails, fingers outstretched, then they're gay.) Is there a connection between this and demotivationals that joke as if you don't notice the most obvious thing in a picture? (eg: "Oh Look, Cupcakes")

@Gravity Cat: can you add a sentence explaining what "replacement meme" means? Especially if you don't mean "forced meme" as @Jostin suggests.

@FirinMaLazah: While the cutscenes of both Hotel Mario and The Legend of Zelda CD-i games are vitally important to YouTube Poop, you need to make a more convincing argument as to why Hotel Mario needs its own entry outside of YTP. Just because a meme developed out of material from the game it doesn't necessarily make the game a meme. For example, 'The Cake Is a Lie' is a legitimate entry but the game upon which it was sourced (Portal) isn't a 'meme'.

I'm pulling this out of 'Confirmed'. As SSBMMasta says the Google Insights embed is wholly inaccurate as 'Weezer Ratitude' probably refers to the album. And a single thread on /b/ could have been astroturfed. Unless someone provides better evidence, this is going to the deadpool soon.

@Landmark356 As somebody who was *very* skeptical of 'Balloon Boy's' inclusion here when it first happened, this definitely counts as a notable meme. Whether it will still be culturally relevant or if anyone will use any of its catchphrases next year is a different question entirely. This was a media-driven event that turned into a participatory one. It had a meteoric rise, almost immediate saturation, and a really fast burnout. All of these things make it worthy of our attention. As memes start to spread faster and with more media involvement, we need to take the time to better understand the difference between media attention and real, peer based enthusiasm. We really need to add some variability to the way that we classify memes. @Jamiedubs has been talking about adding a Strong Meme <----> Weak Meme slider to each entry as a way of further classifying these things. It'll be interesting to see how people use this.

@tedcorp. It's a funny incident and the video is great (I lol'd), however we need to wait a bit to see if anything else develops. Right now, it's just an interesting news story and three images. As @ChrisMenning says, more has to happen first.

@Walter K: Just copy the embed code from each YT video and replace the url with the embed code instead. Good first stab at history -- it'd be nice to find more info to give it a little more context.

The problem isn't with talking about rape and murder, the problem is the overtly politicized phrasing of the entry. The tone of the first few paragraphs need to be changed. Some of the detail is interesting but much of it is irrelevant.
