Looking at Youtube comments, you would think people are getting dumber, not smarter
But the theory makes perfect sense: There are a lot of things you can learn which you wouldn’t learn otherwise thanks to Youtube. Specifically, it allows you to learn the things you actually want to know. University courses often put you through courses that aren’t relevant to what you want to do, even if you choose your courses carefully, or they can skip questions you may find more important to yourself. Courses are tailored to the masses, not the induvidual. But the induvidual can still google specific things they are passionate about learning and surely find a Youtube tutorial for it.
There are also some places where the internet can reach but education cannot. In those places, Youtube could very well be improving the quality of education for those seeking it.
As mentioned in the video, it’s all about accessibility of education. The easier it is for society to access information; the smarter it can get.

@Blue Screen Indeed…my college is making me take lots of Calculus courses, despite the fact that I’m a computer science major concentrating on software development. My father (Masters in software development) says Calculus is absolutely fucking useless in programming.
It really is about “the masses”…the required course list for my major seems to be geared towards general math and science, not really software development and computer science. Bleh.
