Who the hell gets a job at McDonalds and expects to live on it by themselves? That's why you get a second job or a roommate or two. These types of jobs aren't for people looking for a career, it's for people to get by with some money for a year or two before you move on to something else. McDonalds clearly isn't pretending to be something it's not, so why expect it from them?
Whoever made that budget has never supported themselves on minimum wage. I've never made $2,000 in any month of my entire life, and I'm doing just fine.
Rule #1: Roomates, roomates, roomates. Hell, a lot of people live with others, not just minimum wage earners.
Rule #2: NO DEBT. Car payment? Who works at McD's and leases a car? Maybe a low-limit credit card to build your credit, but even that can go south quick.
Rule #3: BIRTH CONTROL. I'm tired of people acting like having children is completely unpreventable. Maybe if mom wasn't such a slut in HS, she wouldn't be working a minimum wage job to support her kids. Birth control is cheap (sometimes free), kids are not.
Its really not that hard to make this work if you aren't completely hopeless. There are people I worked fast food with that are still in fast food b/c they decided to buy a house/lease a car/pop out kids on $8.50 an hour. I have serious issues with authority and a terrible work ethic, and even I managed to break free of minimum wage. Its supposed to be a temporary step, not a career. If you're in your 30s/40s+ and are still flipping burgers, its your fault, not McDonalds'.
