Who Is Carly Minnick And Why Is She Getting Backlash On Twitter? The Viral 'Nazi Salute' Controversy Explained

Nineteen-year-old Carly Minnick is under fire this week because she posted a photo of herself doing a "Sieg Heil" Nazi salute on Twitter / X.
She tweeted it because she was trying to prove to her alt-right followers that she really was the admin behind the hateful X account, which is filled with pro-Hitler and antisemitic posts. Since then, she claims she's been fired from her job and has become the subject of viral outage — but there's a lot more to explain.
So who is Carly Minnick? What does she post on Twitter and why is she receiving all this backlash online right now? Let's explain.

What Did Carly Minnick Post On Twitter?
Strangely, Carly Minnick's Twitter presence is a far cry from the rest of her digital footprint.
This came to the forefront when she posted a photo of herself doing a Roman salute to X / Twitter, known for its use in the German Nazi Party, earlier this week. The post has since been deleted.
It was quote tweet responding to a person who didn't believe that Minnick was the account's true admin. Before that post, the account was sharing Hitler appreciation post after Hitler appreciation post, seemingly contrasting the normal-looking, middle-class, Gen Z white girl in the profile picture.
Minnick's Nazi salute photo aimed to clear the air, showing herself extending her left arm, holding a piece of paper that said her username, the date and the words, "Yes I'm real."

Was Carly Minnick Fired?
A few days later, Minnick posted a photo of herself in a car with her hand on her head, seemingly dejected, claiming, "I got fired." Many Twitter users assumed that it was because of her salute photo.
The post led to a slew of viral quote tweets and memes at Minnick's expense. "You'll never guess why she got fired," one X user wrote, leaning into the odd nature of the ongoing saga.

Why Did Carly Minnick Post Herself Doing A Nazi Salute?
There's undoubtedly something off about Carly Minnick and the whole controversy recently surrounding her online posts.
As stated, her TikTok presence and her Twitter presence are at odds with each other. At first glance, many people would assume she's just an average VSCO Girl with a few friends and a comfortable home life.
However, this Nazi stuff widely contrasts what she alludes, at least for some. This dichotomy or juxtaposition is part of what's fueling this story.
Famous figures like Elon Musk and Steve Bannon have recently made similar gestures. Perhaps now, Minnick might feel more comfortable sharing her ideologies, but it's unknown why she pivoted to this type of content on Twitter.
She's already tweeted about Musk's controversial salute, so she's not backing down from the comparisons.
