Who Is 'Raw Time Tiffy' And What Happened To Her? How '90s Goth TV Host 'Tinarina' Gained A Cult Following In 2024 Explained
TikTokers have become obsessed with the host of late '90s public access show called rAw TiMe thanks to her perfect goth aesthetic and sarcastic attitude towards trollish callers.
The host, known as both Tiffy and Tinarina, was only 16 when she hosted the show for about six months in 1999 and now, decades later, she's garnered a massive fanbase outside of Austin, Texas, where the show exclusively aired in the wee hours of the morning.
But who exactly is Tiffy and what happened to her after her appearance on rAw TiMe? Here's what we know.
Who Is 'rAw TiMe' Tiffy?
Back in the late '90s in Austin, Texas, there was a public access program called rAw TiMe that played from 1:30-3:00 am. During the show, the host, who for six months was a goth teen named Tify, would play a variety of new music videos from across genres. In between videos, she would take call-ins from whoever happened to be up at that time, ideally to discuss the videos.
However, very few callers were interested in discussing the videos. Mostly, the callers seemed intoxicated and simply called in to troll Tiffy in ways that ranged from ridiculous to straight-up disgusting.
These call-ins became the crux of the show thanks to Tiffy's perfect, sarcastic responses to their heinous comments. She never allows the comments to get to her and responds with her own insults and witty remarks, throwing it all right back at each caller. Now, her videos have been rediscovered online, where she's being embraced for her goth aesthetic and attitude.
What Happened To 'rAw TiMe' Tiffy?
The official rAw TiMe YouTube channel began uploading archived copies of Tiffy's call-in segments in 2017 and they started to catch the attention of viewers. Over the last few years, numerous clips from these videos have gone viral on TikTok, X and YouTube, leading to a cult following of people who can't get enough of Tiffy's hilarious segments.
Naturally, this has also got people wondering what ever happened to Tiffy, who disappeared from the public eye after her short stint on rAw TiMe. In her last blog post on her now-defunct website VinylDemon, Tiffy said that in 2004, she started attending school to become a radiologist.
Now, internet sleuths believe to have found several photos of her from the 2010s and 2020. These photos depict a much less gothic Tiffy, who appears to be successful in her career as a radiologist. One photo even shows her with a kid, suggesting she's a mother now.
@star.cultur3 “rAw TiMe” was a public access show aired in the 90s in Austin Texas The show, produced in part by Zomba Recording Corporation, featured several different co-hosts over different sessions, most notably the teenage goth icon Tinarina (aka Tiffy), who used different screen names for the sake of anonymity since she was a minor. She’d answer phone calls from viewers in between music videos, replying to late-night creepers with a cynical tone and a wink for the camera. Tiffy was sarcastic and charismatic, encouraging viewers to call just so she could insult the ridiculous things they said. In no time at all, she became the iconic face of "rAw TiMe." With more viewers tuning in and calling than ever before, Tinarina, more than any other host, had to deal with "real sleazeballs," and facing overt sexual harassment on air, she always shrugged it off and moved to the next video, a noble move for someone who was only 16-years-old at “rAw TiMe”’s peak. “rAw TiMe" played "stuff for the real weirdos," and each time slot contained an almost ridiculous range of music. In one session, the videos went from Björk to Rammstein to The Cardigans -- it was true to the wild music scene of Austin “rAw TiMe” is a beacon of what it meant to be punk.
