A series of meme videos have landed on TikTok, all using the slang term and acronym "SYFM" to humorously attack child comedians, among other cringe-worthy subjects, according to internet users.

SYFM stands for "Shut your fucking mouth!" It all stems from a lesser-known film scene, which went viral late last month for some reason. People online are trying to make SYFM the hottest new slang term, and so far, it seems to be working. Its supporters want to replace the similar and recently viral "SYBAU."

What Is The Original 'SYFM' Video?

The original SYFM clip comes from the 2008 film Bronson, about "a young man who was sentenced to seven years in prison for robbing a post office [and] ends up spending three decades in solitary confinement," according to IMDb. The film stars actor Tom Hardy as the protagonist, Charles Bronson.

In one scene, Bronson confronts a prison guard. He explodes on him, shouting, "Shut your fucking mouth!" Currently, the soundbite is used on TikTok for memetic purposes.




Where Did The 'SYFM' Meme Come From?

Although memes using the clip date back to at least 2022, the well-known trend happening right now stems from a video posted a week ago by a TikToker named @morphelius.wetness — or at least, that's the earliest iteration we could find.

The video shows a kid comedian from the page Cool Beans Kids. He waves to his dad in the audience and then makes a joke about his "naturally black hair," although he's in his 50s.

The meme creator added the SYFM audio, which was supposed to represent the dad heckling his son. The meme's caption read, "Bro's dad was having none of that," notably including the Dead Rose Emoji.

What Does 'SYBAU' Mean?

"SYBAU" is a slang acronym that resembles SYFM in both its letter combination and meaning. In case you don't know that one, SYBAU stands for "Shut your bitch ass up."

Although the term was first added to the Urban Dictionary in 2003, it didn't become a major subject of memes until earlier this year.

It spread alongside other slang acronyms like "TS," "PMO" and "ICL," which all received meme treatment in "slang overload" posts that ironically bastardized African American Vernacular English (AAVE).

The SYBAU trend has only become more brainrotted, evident in new terms like "gurt" joining the party.

What Are Some More 'SYFM' Memes?

Many of the SYFM memes have been following the same format. Meme creators choose a clip of a child performing stand-up comedy or singing and add the SYFM audio to represent a person in the crowd losing their cool.

While many of the clips are of kid comedians, older videos like "Yeah We Fancy Like Denny's" are resurfacing amid the trend.

Adult comedians are not safe either. Popular iterations of the SYFM meme so far have brought back clips like comedian Danika Thibault's infamous 2022 set, as one example.
