I pulled up your OC in Photoshop Elements just to play around with it. Your profile says that opspe was the one who colored it, and he definitely did a good job. In my opinion, it looks great, the only suggestion I would have is to mute the neon-ness of the green a tad, I think it's slightly bright.

Just to compare, we have:
Before                                                                    After

Then again, maybe it's just my monitor. (Hopefully you'll excuse my spurt of audacity.)

How is it everyone suddenly likes earth ponies so much, and everyone also wonders why they're the only one?

Me, I'm happy with my bat pony thestral thing. Bat ponies are cool.

@Verbose
I hadn't realized that Lolover had given up art for medicine. A pity for us, but I hope it works out for him/her.

I can barely tell the difference though,
Also I picked pegasi because it would do well with the name of my OC pony.
I always wanted to experienced flight, but a lot of times of the drawings is of my OC in his exoskeleton, so he can't use his wings, kind of going from plane to tank mod. So people might think I am a earth pony instead of a pegasi.

@Muffins
You don't need a Facebook for one. Just go to here. This is the full version, uploaded by the programmer.
@OC thing
I'm still trying to sort out his main color scheme. Half of it is because he's wearing a fire retardant suit and gas mask most of the time (Works in a foundry, with the blast furnaces. Nope, no obligartoy Pyro reference with the clothes at all.), and the other half being because I want a good color scheme, but I don't want it to look like the stereotypical PC pony. I'm thinking messy brown hair with ash grey stripes for the mane, and possibly a dark charcoal grey for the body, with a little black here and there, like the hooves. Maybe I'll give it a test run in PC some time.

EDIT
Did a first test run with the color scheme. It looks kinda……I don't know:

At least its not eye-searing neon. Not bad for a first try.

@Muffinator
That is supposed to be making fun of valve and their obsessions with hats. Also king-kong. Along with Sweetie Belle being a robot due to that one abridge series.

I don't have an OC pony…
MFW right now:

…I'm a Mandalorian, dammit.

Now, I found this funny:

And in regards to the artist discussion…
Actually, I appreciate good art when I find it. I (unfortunately), have not really taken the time to get to know the artists (besides our friend, Gigatoast)

Oh, that reminds me. Lunar Dawn pt. 2 will be coming…

I completely thought that was an earth pony. Speaking of earth ponies, my headcanon is still that they are naturally far stronger than the other races, because dang it, magical produce-growing abilities are kind of weak sauce. Necessary perhaps, but still, what gives them an edge during war time? I just assume the hoof wrestle between Dash and AJ was some kind of fluke.

@Popper

"Look at dis guy, Fluttershy. No OC!"

Nah I kid, doesn't matter to me. I enjoy a stylish ponysona as much as any brony, but you don't need one or anything.

@Millennial
Well I try to put handicaps on him so he won't be a OP OC pony.
Plus I need to change the background on him, instead of him being in current day Equestria, he will be 1000 years into the future.

Also I like this! :D

@Favorite artist discussion
I do not have a favorite artist. I will still respect them for putting out their work for the world to see, but I cannot pick a favorite artist because they all contribute their own style to the fandom. For that reason I cannot pick a favorite artist because they are all unique and have their own interpretations of the fandom and to simple favor ones interpretation makes me fell like I am not willing to accept others art or value it the same.

Something a person made in the pony creator cannot be considered an OC. Goddamn program, making people think they're super original with their "OC" that's probably been made almost similar a billion times before.

Thank you…guy.
Here's the Slinker

(I know it's Pony Creator, but I can't find a good f*cking drawing pad to replace my old one.)
Also, he comes with shades.

I need to work on him…

Perhaps, but some guys like Tetra do requests based on all kinds of pony art, even Pony Creator ponies, so it can serve as a decent starting point.

OC ponies, eh? Funny coincidence, I recently made a reference sheet for mine.

You probably wouldn't think it when you look at him, but I haven't really bothered to come up with an intricately detailed backstory. I've just got some vague ideas bouncing about in my head and I can't really decide on those either. But then, I don't really intend to use him for much anything besides as an avatar and in artwork (which I'm far too lazy to make), so yeah.

It was quite fun to design him and his needlessly detailed armour, though. The basic design, colours and name are based on my favourite stuffed toy from back when I was a wee lad, because hey, ideas from childhood tend to be the best ones (after some prudent editing with a matured mind) and who doesn't like the added nostalgia value, eh?

The armour, on the other hand, is an amalgamation of various bits and pieces of Gothic plate, with some creative interpretation applied to make it functional on a cartoon equine. The general design combines elements of both human and horse harnesses (like the ones in this picture) while the colours are based on this image, which I've used as an avatar in the past. The cape I added just for style, but I discovered it also makes for a useful excuse for not drawing most of the complex bits, since it covers them up most of the time.

Favourite artist? Well, I've never been one for picking favourites, but I like this guy's works. That's not to say I think he's the best or anything like that (far too subjective a matter to be making that sort of statements) but I really like his style. He's got a knack for making dem ponies look incredibly adorable. I mean, just look at this:

Oh, you guise are talking about OCs? I made a joke llama OC once. He was dumb as hell but I will say I chose a color for his coat that wasn't overbearing. Imo you gotta use something blended for that shit, a color that's too pure throws the rest of the thing off.

So I'm watching "Celebrity Apprentice", and they're talking about how "Clay mates" are lined around the block to donate to Clay Aiken's charity. That's when it hit me:

Tara Strong would own at this show.
Seriously, compared to some of the finalists on that show she is so much smarter than most of them. (and quite possibly more business savvy than most of them as well.)
No kidding. Someone ought to suggest that to her on twitter.

Here's my OC.

(The much better version in my avatar is by muumi and coloured by opspe.)
Typical Vinyl Scratch hair, because I'm uninventive as shit.
Has no backstory, just a 'ponysona' or whatever.

Cite should post about his OC and fic, they're awesome.

We've gone from favorite artists to OC's in one day?

My answer to favorite artists is "pretty much all of them". I just really like the MLP fanart. I wish I could contribute as much as others but I'm so limited these days

As for OC's…

Generally, the best OC’s are the one’s with the simple earth tones. There might be an occasional OC that manages to pull off neon-colors fairly well, but for the most part, they don’t.

Yep, I remember when there was this huge wave of hate against OC around about the time the Pony creator first emerged. Everyone was sick of seeing bright neon, high contrasting ponies everywhere and tensions may still reside

Good thing my OC is…oh damn, hahaha

…well what can I say? I'm the goddamn blue screen of death. What was I supposed to do? I couldn't make my OC any other color.

Well at least my OC has come a long way and I've been improving it since it's first inception (which is in the above link). It looks like this now:

Hopefully that doesn't grate your eyeballs as much as it used to.

And yes, that's an Earth Pony. Seal Clubba and Explosive Lasers are most certainly not alone. Earth Ponies need some love too.

Millennial Dan wrote:

As a starting point, perhaps so. But way too many people see their creation from the pony creator as an OC. I'm also not a great fan of letting others draw your "OC", suddenly thinking that makes them legit OC's. If you want to use that as your OC, at least do some effort yourself.

@Blue Screen

Want a extremely detailed average OC?

>Black pony with a red mane (so many of these).
>Green with a brown/black mane.
>Gray pony with a black mane, or visa versa.
>Extremely girly (pink and everything)
>Neon colors.

>Most likely Pegasus, followed by Earth Pony.
>Cutie mark related to sports, computers or music.
>Standard pose, no creativity at all.

I guarantee you at least 75% of all the Pony Creator "OCs" fall in one of those.

I remember that around the time the Pony Creator emerged, a lot of people made their OC an alicorn. This wasn't really appreciated for 2 reasons.

1: By making yourself an alicorn, you're making yourself overpowered. Alicorns are commonly see as deities in Equestria. Making your OC an alicorn to represent you gives of an ego, making it seem like you think you're better than others and your OC is better than those of others.
2: As said, alicorns are deities somewhat. Back then we only had Luna and Celestia, an extra alicorn wouldn't be appreciated. It would fuck up a lot of headcanons. And we know bronies tend to overreact when their headcanon gets fucked up.

After quite some negative responses people got to their alicorn OC, most bronies changed it.

Had to vote that up because you have a good point. A pony designed in pony creator is okay for the sake of ideas, but it is definitely NOT your own artwork.
My OC is this guy:

I think I mentioned it about thirty pages back or something. That vector was done in Sketchbook based on my own freehand pencil drawing. My avatar (which is based on the vector) was actually drawn by firenze, although I cleaned it up significantly in photoshop afterward, it being a speed draw and all.

Like many of the others, I like using him as a unique avatar, but never really gave any thought to actually making a story for him or anything.

I started to have the idea for it when I saw that JackleApp's ponysona was a gryphon. I thought I'd aim for something slightly unusual but still basically canon-friendly, and a green bat/dragon pony is somehow what I came up with. I had no idea green and brown was considered a common combination, and as for his pose, I can barely draw, so he gets to just stand there. I'm working on it though.

As for alicorns, no matter how you slice it, it's always gonna look cheap to make one your OC. Faust's alicorn was embraced because she's friggin' Lauren Faust, and I'm pretty sure there aren't too many other people who are. Heck, even Jayson Thiessen only got an earth pony.

Last edited May 24, 2012 at 05:06AM EDT

I really didn't know green and brown was a common color combination as well, only time I seen that combo was just on orks.

I tried to make my own OC as well:

Yes he does seem over powered but I just wanted to make a picture that looked epic. I am still having ideas for different modes for his suit and what each mode should consist of, I am trying to make his seem a little orky, with it looking like it came from crysis or iron man. Just like in crysis, I want to give him a handicap on energy. Depending on a skill or move he used, will determine how much energy gets sucked up.
Like that hurricane background you see him making in the picture? Just that move would make the armor fold back up for a week to recharge, plus making the hurricane will take a while and a lot of concentration, it will give some one enough time to intervene.
I am trying to make a better backstory for him, gonna be kind of like Dexter's lab, but a bit smaller, and literally underground. Which comes in with the words "stay out of my shed". Also the lab will have a A.I. ofcourse, I am thinking of something kind of like GLaDOS.
I am trying to make my OC pony seem less OP as you can see here.

As for Alicorns, yeah, you can't be all three races, buddy…pick one or none. We got to keep it balanced here.

A little bit of a topic change….. You guys remember that really strange interview Tabitha St.Germain gave a few months back?

It's not a one off thing:

Those are some email replies to Bronies….. She's kind of weird…

>Tabitha's face when hitting send:

@Random
I was just testing colors. Trust me, if there was a better way, I wouldn't even go near PC in the first place. Yeah, its not the greatest. I'll try and draw him by hand when I get the chance, then possibly try and work out the colors with paint or something. For now, PC will have to do. So far, the colors seem okay. Next step: practice drawning ponies. A lot. I have a feeling I'm going to need a lot more paper….

@Derpy Vasquez:

@Mister J:

Now it's gonna be in my head all day… Fuck…

@StarGazer:

Well, I knew about her brother forever ago. And I barely ever mention my brother to people I know. In fact, they usually bring him up before I do.

As usual, the video was awesome and actually did match my reaction (I particularly enjoyed the Catgroove-humming). As usual, Tomb was especially awesome.

I nearly crapped myself when Yaplap started singing.

@Takashi

For some reason, my response to things like that usually tends to be closer to "haha NO" than it is to "D'aww…". It just seems creepy to me that somebody would become so attached to a fictional character that they'd wish to become a parental figure to them. It was a big problem for me when I tried reading My Little Dashie. I couldn't enjoy the fic because it seemed to me like the whole thing was just a way for the author to express his desperate desires to become a father figure. Instead of bursting into not-so-manly tears like everyone else in the fandom, I just felt mildly weirded-out. It's not even the good kind of fatherhood that they seem to want, but instead a very overprotective and obsessive kind.

@StarGazer

I really hope they keep making those videos. I think they're getting even funnier over time. It's also nice to see that not all bronies are stereotypical basement-lurker type nerds. They all seem pretty normal in those videos. It's a shame that d.notive and Dusty weren't in that one They had good things to say in the last two.

Also, Solrac is definitely best brony. He makes beautiful music and doesn't afraid of anything. If you want proof, check out the masterpiece below:

Sorry, but most actors never want to be remembered for just one role. Take Ramon Valdez for example. He was best known for playing Don Ramon in the infamous Mexican comedy show El Chavo del Ocho. After that, noone else saw him as anything but. When he tried to leave the show to find other roles, he couldn't. Everyone only saw him as that one role, forcing him to return and eventually die playing the role. Also that Obi Wan guy. I don't even know his real name.

That's true, but Tara Strong is one of the premiere voice actresses out there. I knew her name long before FiM, and I don't really know voice actors and actresses that well. It could be that FiM becomes the role she's best known for if FiM continues to get better and popular in the mainstream, but Powerpuff Girls (Bubbles) and Fairly Oddparents (Timmy) among many, many other roles are too well-known for her to be known only for playing Twilight Sparkle once she's done with her career.

You haz point. But I use Pony Creator to test the waters on new pony designs, then I use that to draw upon them. Except, unlike most, I don't like to go head first into designing a character until I have established either a backstory and/or personality, that the way the design works around the intention of the character instead of the other way around. Also, my ponysona Slinker is just an avatar. I might one day expand a backstory, but as of now, it's a stand in.

Yeah, but I just stated that too. I also know Tara Strong from many video game roles, I merely said that sometimes actors get tired of fitting just one role.

From Tabatha's Blog:

"No. I haven't moved to Zanzibar. There has been no plastic surgery to make me look like Donald Trump(although thank-you Graveyard Bean, for that suggestion) I do continue to work lots at my profession, and it isn't, as one might easily surmise, being a Sooper-spy. What I do rather,(nutshell) is make silly noises. Still, sorry, but recently, yes, I'm prone to go shifty-eyed when asked direct questions. Innocent things like: "Hey Tabs, What are you up to?" I can't help it. Instant rat face. Or, I turn into a wee grey cloud and try to slip down a ventilator shaft.

I might first point left and yell: "YETI!"

Does the fate of the western world hang on my silly noises? Are they somehow encoded? Will they do anything to your DNA? Hm. One wonders. I've signed(or have I???) piles of papers saying basically SHHHHH!-- in some sort of proto Robo/Grey/Pleiaedian hybrid pre-invasionese. So if I don't answer questions about these admittedly portentous funny noises I make, and I say things like mmm…mmm….mmmn-- or other combinations of letters with no vowels, it's NOT because of The Great Vowel Famine."
