1. The Ponies I can relate to:
Rainbow Dash
Applejack
Pinkie Pie
(Sorry Twilight, Rarity and Fluttershy. I'm just not a fabulously shy egghead)

2. I would raise hell, and when I mean raise Hell I mean have a mild get together with the other ponies then probably take part in one of their spontaneous musical numbers. Then the bitches

@Kewlnoob

How dare you read my posts!

@1234

Interesting perspective. I think there's quite a bit of truth in that. You are not the only one to speculate that the whole fandom is being used as a form of escapism. However I still assert that, that is only one reason of many.

But indeed the show has its quality. I'm attributing a lot of the shows success to the internet taking it and running with it, making it even bigger than it is. But even I am admitting that the show also stands on its own.

Would the internet have decided to elevate MLP's success the way it has if MLP remained the same as its previous generations? Hell no.

It took Fausts original direction and sense of quality to make the internet take notice of MLP and identify its merits. Only upon those merits and qualities did we all decide this show was worthy of being plastered everywhere

@Lone K

What Mane 6 characters can you relate to in terms of personality and the like?

According to pony personality tests: Half Twilight. Half Pinkie.

I like being fun, random and sociable, but only in moderation and according to standard laid out by the official book of having fun written by S. The Bearded

What would you do to get to Equestria, if by chance it was real?"

Nothing. My human influence would only corrupt their perfect pony lives

@Vazquez

Anthro huh? I can do that. Just need to find an image that isn't NSFW…hmm…

…looking…

…looking…

…damn, this is hard…

…okay, this will do.

Hey guys, want to know a spoiler? They released a picture (like they do all the time) for the season finale involving Fluttershy, buuuuuut she's not the only worthwhile pony there a certain fan favorite DJ is there as well since I'm too lazy (and I just forgot how) to do a real spoiler tag I did some half assed spoiler-proof job.

Last time I tried doing one of those spoiler things it didn't even work. Highly overrated, 2/5, two thumbs down.

@All the anthro posters

I will never understand how people can look at that shit and see anything but the darkest, deepest crevice of the uncanny valley.

@Fifths (OMG someone figured it out no wai)

The good stuff keeps the majority of the pony features over human, they're basically bipedal equines with hands. Stays way out of the valley for me. The Equestria Girls style, with pretty much human features, save skin tone… Now that is disturbing. The skin tones with pretty much human bodies leads to some disturbing unintended implications.

Basically, either do humanized…

OR anthro…

Never, ever, EVER in between.

Definitely Pinkie Pie. I invariably get max her on every pony personality test I take. I tend to be extremely random (to others, it all makes sense in my head), and I just love talking about anything (with people I feel comfortable, at least), often throwing in non-sequiturs, sarcasm, and references everywhere to throw people off. I've also always had this tendency to break out into song, usually annoying pop songs (highlights recently: Beauty and a Beat, I Knew You Were Trouble, oh and Someone Like You), and especially if it's really quiet and someone's trying to be productive. It's hilarious, and I do these really bad impressions, and yeah. Think I have Adele down by now.

I also feel for Fluttershy as well. I live on the responses of others, and I always try to keep everyone happy. If I somehow hurt someone else's feelings, I absolutely break down. This usually results in me blaming myself somehow. I'm terrified of meeting new people, and when I do I'm the most quiet and timid person ever, mostly because I'm afraid I might scare them off somehow on account of my randomness.

The rest I haven't really considered nearly as much as those two, although I do see bits and pieces of myself within them. I'm sort of like Rarity (best poni) in that I like keeping up appearances, without all that flashy adornments and all (Rarity is naked and she's still gorgeous). Makeup imo should be used to accentuate your natural features, not cover up or remake any part of you. I'm Applejack in that I push myself as hard as possible when I feel like there's something in it for me. I'm Rainbow Dash in that I don't feel like doing stuff when I don't feel like it's worth it, or if I can get away with not doing my best and still pass with flying colours (no pun intended). I'm Twilight in that I'm studious and I love learning all there is about everything there is.

I feel like we've covered this topic a million times already, but I always feel like sharing. I guess like taking introspective looks at myself. Plus I love how well the writers have imagined the mane 6 not as generic, colourful, children's show, talking adorable animals, but as empathetic, almost human characters (to answer the other topic). They all have their own deep personalities that often overlap and sometimes even clash, their own thoughts and experiences that contribute to themselves, their friends, and the fanbase, and their own flaws that don't detract from their appeal and instead build them up as realistic beings. All of these things seem to positively emanate out of the show. Sure, it has a cutesy appeal that might get at you from the start, but once you get into their skin (okay not literally), you really get to know them as individuals. Whoever said the thing with the no Flanderization was spot on. Children's cartoon characters especially tend to fall victim to exaggeration of certain aspects of personalities at the cost of everything else, and I appreciate how the writers have managed to stay away from that.

Haven't popped out one of these TL;DRs things in a while. Excuse me while I clean the floor from copious amounts of spaghetti.

What personality do I fit with? Probably Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, or Luna.

What would I do in Equestria? Probably attempt to conquer it and be defeated by Twilight in a final battle.

@1234

If you think anthro is disturbing, you really need to spend more time on the internet. A lot more time. Frankly I can't imagine why you find it uncanny. You've been watching Disney and WB cartoons as a kid right? That stuff should have made you accustomed to it. Are you sure you aren't are just placing unwarranted negative furry connotations on anthro that don't belong?

It's just an art style of depicting characters with a mix of physical traits and when done correctly can look interesting and imaginative. It's been pretty casual stuff ever since the Egyptians started putting animal heads on their gods.

I only find anthro ponies weird when the artists do not properly define the line between anthro form and pony form. I find this happens a lot when they don't add hands. Because ponies are already pretty anthro as it is, they don't appear that different if they still have 4 hooves so they just look like ponies with misplaced boobs. Take this for example:

Without the skull shape, we rely on the hips, chest and waist to define the human shape but the usual pony design already incorporates that, so this is just Scootaloo with boobs (not to disrespect the artist). Why does she have boobs? Ponies don't have boobs there.

But adding hands changes that perspective completely, in this example we just gave Lyra hands and she keeps the rest of her pony shape:

Viola! Anthro! The hands was all that was missing, ponies already have the rest.

Now that the demonstration is over, lets look again at Lyra with the rest of the anthro features aside from hands + cyberpunk + sniper because that shit is awesome. Notice that the human semblance is mainly invoked from the torso:

I think it looks cool. No?

1) Here Goes, Ponies I identify with:
Rainbow Dash
Twilight Sparkle
Pinkie Pie

Try to figure that Combo out.

2) I have no original Thought of my own to show how much I would do. All I can think of is a quote from another Modern Fandom based in the internet.

I COULD HATE A HOLE IN PARADOX SPACE ITSELF, STRAIGHT THROUGH TO A NEW REALITY-

…Man there isn't much good ponified Karkat. All the others get quality Ponifications, Yet Karkat at best gets shopped onto a pegasus for a meme.

@BsoD

Thing you need to realize about the uncanny valley is that anthropomorphization is fine…to a point. Our standard G4 ponies have more human features than earlier gens and I think the design benefits greatly for it.

The problem with anthro for me is that it's almost human…but not quite. It's close, but still very distinctly not human, and that creeps me out. I'm fine with Warner Bros and Disney because that stuff tends to not cross the line into "almost but not quite," their characters always remain very distinctly not human.

To answer your question about the Scootaboobs, they were added because Deadparrot needs something to fap to as well.

Guys…. I think I understand…

Advance acted as a sponge for all of the urge to post ponies with boobs, containing it in a singularity. When he was banned the urge to post ponies with boobs ceased to be contained, and was therefore dispersed across all of pony general.
It all makes sense!

…we need Advance back.

@1234

I guess I won't be able to understand since anthro just doesn't phase me in any way. They could be almost human or almost animal and I'll still be completely used to it.

I remember seeing Disney cartoons as a kid like their rendition of Robin Hood which used the very definition of anthro style and playing Star Fox which did the same. It seemed normal back then and does so now. I don't know why those things are fine but anthro ponies are not. I don't see the difference

@Windigo

Good lord, you are right! By banning Advance, we have released a great evil that only he could control! Ponies with boobs are running rampant…slowly spreading across the board…debauching our children with their golden horse orbs…

…and now they are dangerously armed!

What have we done?

10/10 That is the most beautiful use of the English language I have ever read.

@1234:

…No, honestly I've never seen the uncanny valley in anthro (once again, as long as we're talking straight-up traditional anthro, pone with a few human qualities). There's enough to keep them squarely in the realm of ponies, just like Fox McCloud is a bipedal fox that flies a spaceship. The "plasticy" quality of G4 ponies just makes them smoother, with something more like skin than traditional anthro (read: furry art). Yet leaving features like the snout and hooves for legs, as well as pony ears. Still looks like a pony to me.

Basically, when I think of uncanny valley, I think of this:

Not something with clear animal features. Either you just plain dislike anthro, or you have a low threshold for the valley.

Took me a little bit of searching for a decent anthro Fluttershy, but I found one.

I feel like we’ve covered this topic a million times already, but I always feel like sharing. I guess like taking introspective looks at myself.

I love discussions that spur introspective thoughts as well. But I've always had trouble pinning down which character(s) I find to be the most relatable. Doubly so when it comes to MLP. Since it's not bogged down by an overly cynical view or flanderization, I find them all more relatable than usual characters. I suppose that may also account for why I've had such a difficult time choosing a favorite in the past. I'm curious, does my personality come off as having strong semblance to anypony from the show to any of you?

What would you do to get to Equestria, if by chance it was real?

Head to the train station and ride the Ponyville Express, of course!

Hpapy Hearts Hooves day gaiz

@Anthro Ponies

Normally, I prefer full on pony or humanized, but I really like some of the one's Dan posted. Holivi and Swomswom in particular have really nice styles!

Hey, howzitgoin'? Well… I'm here because… w-well… Here!

D-Don't think it means I like you or anything, Pony Advance General-senpai… b-baka…

ahem Happy Hearts and Hooves Day, everyone. Or… Happy Singles Awareness Day. We can be alone together ;_;. May your loves stay strong and your tissues stay unused today. I love you all. But like… not in that way. Really. cough

Lolkay here's some anthro.

As always, click for sauce.
Frankly, the art style don't matter much as long as it is good art, and, from what I've seen, anthro can be good art, too.

Hello, KYM Pony General. It has been quite some time since I've seen you last. (Though I doubt any of you noticed since you're too busy glorifying the fake usurper Teal dear)

I have bad news.

First they took away Derpy. I said nothing but regret my silence.

They foisted Alicorn Twilight on us.

Then Hasbro announces that Mane 6 get a CnD.

Then they announce a movie with god knows what in it.

Then they push this sick Anthro crap on us after bullying the domain owners of Equestriagirls.com

I've had enough. This is a sinking ship. The fandom is dying and I am taking my leave. I will unfortunately never visit this thread again and cutting all ties to the fandom.

Thanks to everyone that has made my time here memorable. Except you Verbose…..you're a massive faggot and I can honestly say I never liked you. I deserve to be a mod more than your teal dear stealing ass ever will.

I say…goodbye.

Good night Brony fandom. You've been good to me….

PFFT, I'm just playing with you guys! I'd never leave this unending maelstrom of chaos and insanity. Seeing the reactions to all the news happening is fucking amazing!

Of course, the reason I haven't been participating is due to IRL keeping me VERY VERY BUSY of late.

Don't worry, it's the GOOD kind of busy. Unfortunately, I'm still gonna be absent for a while longer (about a month or so?) but I thought I'd dump my thoughts on recent events:

C&D on Mane6:

I'm really pissed at this. I've heard arguments from both camps (Ie, it's fanwork so Hasbro doesn't have to worry about defending trademark and vice versa) and after reading many lawyery essays I have concluded one thing:

WHO FUCKING WROTE US COPYRIGHT AND TRADEMARK LAW? IT'S A MESS! DOWN IS UP UP IS DOWN CATS AND DOGS LIVING TOGETHER!

But I digress, my final thoughts on the subject:

Last Weeks episode:

It was okay….I mean…there was nothing really bad about it but nothing that really stuck out except some nice wide shots of the Crystal Empire, those are nice.

Also, wtf is Shining Armour doing there? Prince Harry doesn't train the UK Olympics team….?

Equestria Girls:

I'm taking the same stance with Alicorn Twilight: I'll wait and see if this is shit. Frankly, I'm happy it's a spinoff. That means at least DHX will be focused on Season 4.

On a final note.

I MISSED YOU GUYS SO MUCH!

Still on an Android, at school.

Anyhoo, about Equestria Girls… just ignore it. It's easy. If they were fully human, fine. But the anthos just aren't working. I have an idea for a human character named Josh Larson, who holds the lost Element of Freedom. But that's silly fanfic shit.

@Equestria Girls
Well then. That's… interesting, for a lack of a better word. I highly doubt they'd do something like that, but you never know. Really, I just think it would get a little confusing if they had two shows with the same characters (human or otherwise) running at the same time.

Honestly though, I can't even look at the title "Equestria Girls" without getting that darn Equestria Girls advertisement song running through my head.

EQUESTRIA GIRLS WERE UNFORGETTABLE!~~

Ya, that's gonna be going through my head all day…

In other news, happy Valentine's Day everyone!

Last edited Feb 14, 2013 at 10:57AM EST

Okay… Since We're back on Equestria Girls thing again… here's my updated opinion: Neutral.

That's mainly cause lots of people here have been claiming the art we've seen of it is probably fake (So maybe if it is happening, the art might be better.)

As said, I have nothing against the concept… I just want to see something good before I start getting hopeful.

In any case… Since there is now also doubt on whether Equestria Girls as we've heard about it is legit at all… What might the real spin off be? What might we want it to be?

Personally, I'd do good with Something that focuses on a bunch of Background/One-Shot ponies Like Octavia and Vinyl Scratch becoming friends and doing their own little thing.

Maybe throw in some new Pony that gets trained under Luna, as a counterpart to Twilight. Although, maybe have her be more interested in practical aplication of magic rather than theory, and is a lot more active… Like… Think Rainbow Dash as a Magic Talented Unicorn.

Maybe they travel around Equestria together seeking adventure: Seeing all the places that the Mane six don't have time to explore very often. Who knows?

Edit: Oh, better yet, make Said Twilight counter-part sort of a Street-rat character with a hint of Robin hood. And Luna gets interested in her when she performs some great magic on some great theft.

Twilight. I'm an egghead.

And happy Valentine's Day!

MFW all these anthros:

So I forget to check in with this thread for one night and you guys throw down like, a page and a half of posts out of nowhere…
Gotta go back a little bit, but someone posted Corey Powell's tweet about her dragon-sona.
Yeah, that is a thing and it apparently came about after Just for Sidekicks, which some people applauded as 'the only good Spike episode.'
Powell, as the writer, became the representative of dragons.

And, as with everything, there was an application of R34 applied shortly thereafter.
The fact that she saw it and thought it was hilarious really makes me like her (even more than I did when she wrote Sleepless in Ponyville).
Go, Powell!

@Anthro Ponies
I find these to be wildly variable and it's a little difficult to pin down exactly what makes me like one and not another.
Since I can't not use Scootaloo as an example, this style is pretty cool:

And I can't forget those comics.
That style just works for me, too.

Others, like that creepy-ass ScootaBoob thing up there in BSoD's post… Nuh-uh…
In general, I greatly prefer full-pony art, then antro and alternate versions are decided on a case-by-case basis using some combination of style, skill, proportions, and general 'niceness.'
The closer to normal pony, the better for the most part, but there are too many exceptions for me to try to define a standard rule.
Some work, some don't.

So, I was absent from the thread last night because I have begun (with assistance from Exudes) to play with Flash and when I got frustrated with that after a couple hours, I decided to just vector something.

Now that is taken from the actual show and all (Cutie Mark Chronicles), but of course, only when I'm over halfway through do I suddenly ask myself where Sweetie's horn is.
Now I just can't unsee that…
Damn it…

Oh right!
<div class=spoiler title="Happy Hearts and Hooves Day, all you freaky Rarity-obsessed weirdos!">

New spoiler clip is out.

Going to say it now.. This might be my favorite song in the show. I'm really not much of a fan of the music usually, but this seems more.. well done? and charming than the others. Dashie's voice is a little less scratchy than what I'd expect, but it's still really fitting. And hearing Pinkie drop into a minor southern accent for a moment is just awesome. I was hoping for some Singlestia in the clip, but I guess I'll just have to wait for the episode to air to hear that.

As far as the plot: I think I understand what's going on now. It's not that the ponies can't just do what they normally do in their lives, it's that they feel driven by their Cutie Marks to carry out their friends' tasks.

Anthro ponies: I like them, so long as the artist doesn't try to do extreme human actions with hooves or anything. They need to retain some of that plasticity from the show for me to really enjoy them.

@BG Pony Spinoff Idea: That is a fantastic idea, friend. The characters for that should be Vinyl, Lyra, Octavia, Bon Bon, Cloud Chaser, and Flitter. (Face it, we're not getting Derpy back.)

@Anthro Ponies:

Humans are better.

Usually I like the hooves where the feet should be, as for hooves where the hands should be, not so much.

Vinyl Scratch being thrown in every finale now? Would've much preferred either Octavia or one of the other big background ponies since Derpy basically ceases to exist. I don't really get the hype for Vinyl, her design is cool but….I just don't know.

Titties.

<div class=spoiler title="I know, right?">

As if Vinyl would just be walking around during the day!

Honestly, I like this.
After Derpy, Vinyl is the second-best example of DHX reaching out to the fans and if they aren't allowed to use The Derps anymore, I'll accept this compromise!
History lesson:
When Vinyl first appeared for all of 5 seconds in Suited for Success, people liked her design enough that she got a good deal of attention.
EQD ended up holding a poll to decide what her fanon name would be, listing a good number of potential options that had been floating around at the time.
'DJ-PON3' ended up winning with 'Vinyl Scratch' coming in a very close second, so most people decided to say that Vinyl is her real name while DJ-PON3 was her stage name.
Shortly afterward, the Hub released the now-infamous Equestira Girls promo with a special extended version that they specifically sent to EQD.

And then DJ-PON3 was canon!
Technically, because of that commercial, Vinyl (I've always preferred that name) was actually the first major acknowledgement of the brony thing that the Hub made, even if Derpy did end up stealing the spotlight a bit.
Even if you aren't a huge fan of her design or character, the history behind her should at least help you appreciate the move a little bit.
If they are going to start using Vinyl more often, I think that's pretty cool!

@Deadparrot

At the same time, Vinyl was deliberately put in, and designed to be a DJ. Heck, more thought was probably put into her design than into other BG ponies you see all the time like Lyra or Golden Harvest. Derpy is different. Derpy was defined by fans.
