I bet you thaught about it upon seeing the nsfw button, because this came to my mind at once: A KYM pony would fit perfectly on there.

I mean it's going to be used massively in the pony gallery, so a NSFW KYM pony is in dire need!

And yep a contest is a good idea.

Really? There isn't a KYM pony yet? There's a pony for just about everything else, but no KYM pony? Wow, I guess it was just so obvious that it has never been done.

Glasses and a labcoat seems like a good start. Not sure what the cutie mark would be though… Of course, you could just cover it up with the labcoat and be lazy like that!

As for the NSFW idea… I will take no part in that, thanks.

You know, it's funny, but no. I was sitting in my Introduction to Hospitality class, taking notes at 8:30 in the morning, when I just thought "I wonder if we have a ponified KYM-tan?" My next thought was "where the hell did that come from?"

Although personally I wouldn't use it as a NSFW tag alternate. I just want a semi-official (and good) KYM-pony.

But nice idea guys, would love to see a collab of ideas resulting in KYM ponified. (Do Equestria Daily and other pony hubs actually have a pony? Not counting the editorial staff's ponifications.)

I don't think Daniel Ingram writes music and we should cease calling it that. I think it would be much more accurate to call his compositions 'auditory braincrack'

Anyway, I did a cover. It's a season 3 song for those of you trying to avoid spoilers.

And for those of you interested in the theory side, here's my brief analysis of the piece. Harmonically, this is one of Ingram's simpler pieces, taking place entirely in the key of C major and using only four chords: C major, a minor, F major and G major. These chords, or rather chords which exemplify the relationship that these chords hold with each other, are some of the most basic in all music, but Ingram plays them in a fashion that is somewhat peculiar. This song is full of deceptive and plagal progressions (G major to a minor and F major to C major respectively). These progressions aren't rare in music, but I found their great abundence to be notable. On two occasions he progresses from G major to F major, which is an extremely atypical in traditional harmony. This progression is however an essential part of the blues, interestingly enough.

Something to take note of is an older than dirt technique that Ingram employs in balancing soloist sections (where a voice sings alone) with choral sections (where an entire buttload of voices sing at once) This technique has been employed by many composers across the world for centuries. There is a lot of potential for drama to be had in exploiting the contrast between the one and the many. In West African cultures and their descendents, the slaves brought to America, this takes the form of call and response, where the leader sings out a 'question' and everyone else sings out the musical 'response'. In European classical music, the one-many dichotomy is best explored in the classical concerto, where a virtuosic soloist alternates with the orchestra in playing the main melody while the other accompanies them.

Ingram gives each of the main six a line during the verses, giving each's unique voice and personality a moment to shine. He then brings them altogether to sing the chorus, powerfully stating their mission and their coming together to accomplish this goal.

I think whichever pony gets picked, it should be a unicorn… It evokes the image of Twilight Sparkle's curiosity; and even the ones with wilder hair make one think they are knowledgable about Something.

And since KYM is all about collecting all the collective opinions and couture points and cataloging them (especially the fun ones) then a Unicorn definitely fits the bill. And giving her a wild mane would probably get across the light hearted nature of the site.

-also, Magic: I immagine that in equestria, the first use of the Internet will be through magically manifested screens, and their internet would be made of magic. And floating magic screens in front of a unicorn that she watches YouTube off of would be cool.

Her hair may somewhat resemble Lyra's… I don't know why, it just makes sense to my mind.

Funko has announced the next two vinyl figures: Doctor Hooves and Fluttershy (nope, still no punny Vinyl Scratch). Just gonna say, judging from the size of the Rainbow Dash and Derpy ones, especially their in-show manes compared to their figurine ones, Fluttershy is gonna be ridiculously tall.

Also, did the fandom somehow decide on "Dr. Hooves" as a fanon name? 'Cause I was under the impression it was "Dr. Whooves".

EDIT: In fact, that's what our article calls him. May or may not need to be addressed.

Fanon had him declared as Whooves, but canon had him declared as Hooves to avoid any possible lawsuits from the company owning Dr. Who. It was mostly just to be on the safe side.

Don't get me started on Lyra's human obsession fanon deal. Or Derpy's muffin obsession. It was funny the first few times, but after the fandom blew it up so much that it became their only fucking trait it started pissing me off, and now I can hardly stand it. Mainly because it's not a unique trait. Everypony sits like Lyra did now, and Derpy said 'Muffins!' in a crowd of ponies who said 'Muffins!' with just as much goddamn enthusiasm as her.

As for your question, I think the pattern is this:
Websites devoted entirely to pony do not typically have a pony representation themselves (though their mods usually do).
Primarily non-pony sites do often seem to get their own ponifications.
I assume having a pony avatar for a pony site is a little too heavy on the pony redundancy.

@Solaire: Canon hasn't even declared him as Doctor Hooves. Canon has christened him Time Turner. As for his unofficial name, I've seen more merch labeled "Dr Hooves" than the alternate spelling, which could be due to BBC, but I see a couple problems with that:

• It's an unofficial name.
• It's pretty different, I think it could stand up in court.

Besides, if they'll complain that much, give the BBC a damn cut then. I still think it could hold up under Creative Commons, though.

As for "Whooves" as an official fanon name, I haven't really seen anyone argue against "Hooves" when it's used.

While we're on merch, I wanted to go back to Solaire's post, specifically the part about background pony quirks, but I ran out of time to edit before I decided to.

I have to agree, the sitting/wants to be a human/muffins jokes are kind of annoying. All of them are two seconds of screentime that people decided means they must do this or like this, even when others do too (e.g. Derpy's Muffins). I always preferred the fanon that wasn't based on stupid crap like that, like Dr Hooves (which I can let slide, as it makes way more sense than sitting funny=wishes she had hands) or Derpy being a mailpony (completely original).

On that note, I kinda want this. I use messenger bags over backpacks anyways, and the art's pretty fitting for a bag.

No drawing tonight, roommate just turned out the lights so I can't really draw. I'll do it tomorrow, I promise (then again, I kinda gave myself a time limit, so I have to get it done in two days)…

I actually kind of like the muffins thing. I haven't seen all too much stuff about Lyra so I can't say much about the humans jokes. From what I've seen, though, Derpy is often portrayed as having more character traits than just liking muffins. it often seems to exist as just something she enjoys a lot, and I find that kind of cute. And it's not like the jokes have stepped into "the cake is a lie" territory yet.
Probably my favourite interptretation of Derpy is her being a hidden genius behind her ditzyness.

on a completely unrelated note, my 8yr old sister has recently proclaimed to her class that people on the internet love My Little Pony. I'm not sure how to feel about that… has anybody else here had something like that happen? She's the only one in my family that knows I'm a brony too.

If you read a lot of fics like me, you end up with a lot of interesting uses of the Muffins and Humans tropes as well as alternative interpretations of those two characters.

It's kind of difficult to tell an entire story through only one image or a one page comic. And besides, I think Derpy's relationship with Dinky and Dr.Whooves as well as her job as a mailmare are actually equal to the muffins aspect.

My take on the Lyra and human thing is that Lyra invented anything and everything human-like in equestria.

And by invented, I mean it literally. As in, moonlighting as a scientist.

However, that does raise more questions than it answers; so Here's my top 6 ways to explain it:
-She's got contact with Humans, and their influence has given her the knowledge needed for the rapid increase in technology. (First the Trains needed to be pulled, then they could pull themselves. Etc)
-She's merely the first pony to recognize that the poni form for sucks for enabling a sentient species to manipulate the world.
-She's a poni angel, and with divine knowledge, comes divine quirks.
-She's distantly related to one of the bipeds, such as minotaurs like iron Will.
-She inherited memories from a human so their life would't be forgotten when they die (first explanation that ties into her position as a bard, which are the ways stories are passed through the ages)
-She met Rarity a long time ago, and Rarity is a reincarnated human from our world. Lyra has since been remaking the world so that Rarity can feel more at home.

I think that last one may be a winner.

I'm with you dude. Derpy liking muffins is cute, and it isn't always portrayed as being an all-out obsession.

You know, I've always enjoyed the fan-created lives of the background ponies. Sure, they have absolutely nothing to do with the show, but it's fun to see how people give lives and personalities to them. To any "outsiders" these things wouldn't make any sense, but from a brony perspective they seem to work out.

Sometimes they take it from websites that use to delete the threads or forum the picture was posted in realy quick, so maybe we can make than an exception, and also: a source shuld maybe be the original source.
Not everyone even tags 'their art' just wait, maybe someday in the future it will be all tagged and source'd^^

That's the case with several images
4chan's /mlp/ board has several drawfriend threads that get deleted with all this art
Some gets posted on different websites, some gets lost forever
But since the person is anon, there's no source or artist
So if you don't cite artwork it may or may not be forgiveable since the artist and source could be long gone

Anyone notice that Veggie made a new comic? It's somewhat relevant because he used a muffin gag, but to be blunt, I didn't think it was very funny. Veggie's comics are okay on average, but am I the only one who thinks he's overrated? I only make this observation because of his comics' massive following when compared to other (equally good) comic artists' work.
