It's not like I was just refreshing JHaller's YouTube channel all day or anything.

I really need to catch up on the show so that I don't have to avoid the thread of out fear of spoilers. I guess that's what I'll do for the rest of the night. Also, who screwed up the thread so that each page starts with post 7,450 instead of post 7,451?

That's cool. Kind of wish they didn't spoil the ending though.

@Fifths

They kinda spoiled the ending of the others too. Guess they just figured that everyone's seen these by now. But congrats man. I'm glad you guys are getting some recognition

I'm not sure if that number actually counts the OP

Okay… Finally got the heart to watch the other half of last episode…

…Only to start wondering if I was watching it on a dud mirror due to the fact the bottom of the screen only came down to about the middle of Rarity's mouth.

Apart from the question of someone's camera work screwing up, the dialogue round about the aesop moment in the theater started getting… Ergh… Freaking exposition fairy-esque.

…Then again… What do I expect from an episode devoted to a pony why turned into a fairy?

So yeah, only minor troubles as usual…

You know… Besides the fact half the episode, which I saw last time was dicking about, and it feels like the actual "point" of the episode lasts about 4 minutes.

1 minute to introduce B**** and her way
1 minute to show Rarity going ape
1 minute where Rarity snaps to her senses quite suddenly
1 minute for everyone to make up.

Urgh… This isn't just your usual rush job… It's almost like the actual plot only takes up a mere quarter of the episode.

But yeah, I'm pretty sure some of these episodes are starting to look like they are meant to be shown in bulk. As in, re-runs and stuff so they can be crammed into a marathon, where the fact the episodes seem short isn't going to bother anyone. Which would mean there's a reason for it.

Bleh… I'm being more picky than I'd like to sound… It's not a bad episode, I swear.

I suppose there's probably a reason for that, maybe all the little glaring bits of flaw stick out more in an otherwise good episode, making them easier for me to comment on right now.

Now for your silver lining…

Coco sounds kinda like Fluttershy in my head for some reason. I now understand why everyone is saying she's cute.

Gonna have to second that. Jan is basically the best animator in the fandom, and I'm almost surprised that Studio B hasn't tried to snatch him up yet.

Sketched this picture on a whim

Jimmy, I was inspired by the unlikely combo of favorite pones on your profile page. You can have the sketch if you want it.

That's why I almost never pay attention to the "morals" at the end of every episode. Most of the time, they barely fit in with the episode, they squander some time that could be better spent elsewhere, and the characters never actually use the moral later on (glares at Mane Five during A Canterlot Wedding).

Urgh… This isn’t just your usual rush job… It’s almost like the actual plot only takes up a mere quarter of the episode.

I didn't think it (or any other S4 episode) were rushed at all, especially when compared to the hack jobs otherwise known as Magic Duel and Keep Calm and Flutter On.

@Don't Mine at Night
I still don't understand it. How is mining at night any different from mining during the day? Zombies, skeletons, enderponies, and slimes all spawn in caves regardless of the time of day due to it always being dark. Creepers spawn during the day even in fully lit conditions.

It's all downhill from here. Especially with Blue Screen going insane in twenty pages when the preliminaries for the Thread Title Games start up and Twilit has to kill him in a duel to the death over top of the bottomless pit otherwise known as the Cringeworthy Gallery.

With regards to animation quality, Don't Mine at Night is definitely one of the better animations produced by the fandom. But it frustrates me to no end that someone with the talent like Jan spent so much time animating a stupid song about Minecraft when I think he would have been better off devoting his energies to, say, full episodes of Button Mash.

I'd be surprised if they did. I think the studio is hesitant to hire anyone out of the fandom; otherwise, we'd probably see Mando in the show before we saw Jan.

Technically Mando was already in the show. During the Season 3 finale there was a Mandolin cue or whatever that was played by him. Probably not what you meant by him working with the show but I think that's as far as they will go unless Jan actually applies for an animating job or something. Plus Jan would probably have an easier time getting a part on the show compared to all the 15 year olds out there harassing the staff on Twitter to get on the show because they're 'amazing' voice actors and 'the absolutely most talented' writers.

Technically technically, Mando was not actually on the show. His mandolin part never made the final cut.

Thing is, it makes much more sense to have a guest musician than a guest animator; while Mando might get featured in an episode or two there's no point to letting Jan help unless they were going to give him a permanent job. Jan might be able to land the job if he wanted to, but if I were the studio I'd be more inclined to hire animators with no pony experience whatsoever, just so that I could mold them into using the exact same techniques as the other animators already working on the show. Uniformity speeds things along a ton and makes sure the end result is consistent throughout, and training someone to animate something in a completely different way than how they've always done it is much more trouble than training someone to animate something they've never animated before.

@Jan
Yeah, I think everyone can agree that that guy kicks animation ass.
There are a few hurdles to him being actually hired by the show though.
Exudes makes a really good point about training vs. retraining, but if I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure he lives in Europe.
So, just logistically, it would be silly to offer him a job that would require him to move to Canada.
He's doing just fine on his own and I'm sure he can get plenty of work without needing the staff of MLP to help him.
Sticking to nothing but ponies would only pigeonhole hole his opportunities.

@Fan Shout-outs
This may be one of the most appropriately-timed conversations this forum has ever had, but I fear I may be ruining things by even saying that much…
<div class=spoiler title="Spoiler tags, away!">

Slightly spoilery version:
This weekend's episode has basically the most direct fan content shout-out in the history of the show.

If you know the name (or look it up), you may be able to guess what's coming, but if you would like to see it:

<div class=spoiler title="Final Spoiler Level! (Direct Episode Clip)">

So, yeah…
The '-licious' videos have been directly referenced now!
No real way to question whether it's a shout-out to the fandom because it just is and, for that reason, I'd call this the most obvious case of direct interaction with the show that we've had outside of the original elevation of Derpy!
Some people are already screaming 'Pandering!' but I don't know…
I think I like it as a silly little gag that no one who isn't already familiar with the content it's parodying will catch onto.
Just Apple Bloom being weird again.

The only thing I do worry about is people now expecting all kinds of extra shout-outs to other fandom stuff.
The whole 'If you give a mouse a cookie' problem.
But at least we know that bronies are always grateful for the treats they receive and never become demanding or whiny, right?

… right?

Oh god, we're doomed, aren't we?

Daniel Ingram is up for another award for his work on MLP, with an added potential for unreleased content!
I have no idea how it would be possible to influence the results to actually make this happen, but here's hoping!
New pony songs are always welcome!

I have discovered a new favorite tag on Derpibooru:

'Marshmelodrama'

Perfect.

Is it sad to say that I cringed at that clip just a little bit? Not because it was necessarily bad shoutout, just the fact that I'm not really crazy about straight forwards fandom references (unless we count Derpy and Vinyl as they're the background ponies that we even got Hasbro/The Hub to acknowledge….And it's always fun to point out Derpy in the backgrounds) and this time it just felt a little…..I dunno.

But hey in slightly less spoilery news.

Hey hey hey, we had to wait till each season was finished before they announced a new season. Now they're announcing them before the season is even half way over! Hasbro finally has their cash cow people, now let's just hope Hasbro pulls the plug on this show once it starts getting unwatchable like a certain cartoon about an annoying talking Sponge.

Derpibooru is slow as all mother fuck today but she's tagged as janine manewitz (named after the ghost busters secretary) and grace manewitz there.

@Season 5

Best part about this is that the next season will include the hundredth episode of My Little Horse Show.

I wonder if they have anything special planned?

This is going to be good.

^Did someone say Lyra?

Yeah, been sitting on that picture and wanting to post it for a while, decided to make it coincide with my return here.

BTW, sorry about the sudden absence and lack of my promised series beginning, my bad on all that, do hope to do that but I have some pressing issues right now with preparing for exams so it might be delayed. Do hope to start very soon though, kinda sad at getting left behind so I really would like to get going!

@Lyra thread

I love you guys.

Lyra is my favorite. What's not to love about the pony with the fetish for you?

She's cute

She's creative

She's badass

She's bad

And she's the only pony awesome enough to have this happen to her:

Draw Lyra… uhh… a-as a mint green unicorn.

…I panicked. Draw Lyra with an 'I panicked' sort of expression. Hey, you guys try to think of something on the spot, it's hard.

Well, it looks like Blue beat me to the punch. But Fifths would never pick Blue over me, right guys?
…right?

@Fifths
Since it's so rare, how about some Lyra actually acting like a pony?

@Secretary Pony

It's so obvious that no one thinks of it!

But yeah, that secretary pony was adorable and had a great voice (Tabitha strikes again!) so I am a little sad to see her so overwhelmingly overshadowed by Coco.
More cute glasses pony!

@Blue: Wow, I guess I really picked the right picture to post on my return!
And would it be really meta if the Gangnam Style plushie had this instead?

I had a couple ideas for that Lyra pic just now but they're odd, so you probably wouldn't want to hear 'em.

Gen 3 ran for seven years (2003-2010). Seven years. And it was shit, both in the story department and in the money making department. Ponies are almost singlehandedly writing off Hasbro's losses in the boy's department and keeping the Hub afloat. I think this ride'll be going on a lot longer than Spongebob. At least a decade. Probably longer.

Hopefully they'll do a parody episode like SG-1 did. Have them make fun of everything like the princesses being totally useless, the rushed endings, the multitude of things the Elements can do that the plot requires, Twilicorn, maybe even Mare Do Well so /mlp/ can scream "pandering." Stuff like that.

That depends, have you been toning your thighs banning spam accounts? Because if not, you better watch out.

@Lyra Circlejerk
Your daily reminder that her entire personality is founded on the fact that she was sitting on a bench in a weird position. Oh fanon, when canon eventually punches you in the face, I will revel in the shitstorm.

Rainbow Falls: Rainbow Dash and her Ponyville team arrive in Rainbow Falls to fly in the qualifying round of the Equestria Games when it becomes apparent that the competition definitely has a hoof up on them. Then, when the elite Cloudsdale team offers Rainbow Dash a spot on their top notch squad, she’s faced with making a tough decision about where her loyalties lie.

Soarin and Spitfire are confirmed as guest stars.

Three's a Company: As Twilight Sparkle eagerly anticipates the arrival of Princess Cadance, Discord dishes up quite the dreadful disruption when he arrives and begs the ponies to take care of him while he is sick. But when Discord’s diva like demands get ridiculously out of hand, Twilight’s generosity and friendship skills are put to the test during her special weekend.

Discord song confirmed.

I'm really happy he's returning. Maybe we'll get more out of him than pie this time.

@xTGSx and Lyra's Personality

What we normally get from canon is that Lyra can be excitable at some times, and very relaxed at others. She's jumping for joy on some occasions, and other times she's just chilling back drinking a smoothie during a magic duel… Oh… And one time, she was bored while being made to wait for Bon Bon at a date-ish thing.

All this point to being fun loving, but with different settings on the excitability scale… Her varying level of excitability can be left for later analysis though.

We have noted that the card game eventually said she does indeed have a liking for humans. Though in theory this might be construed as curiosity rather than obsession.

Not to mention… Her talent is not only mentioned in some sources to be music, but its her cutie mark… As you can see just by looking. Though some external sources such as books and collector cards say she's more a singer than a Lyre player.

…But one more thing to note, she cried when the para-sprites stole her food… While others had… Other reactions.

So… Taken together, she has curiosity, creativity, she's fun loving, and sentimental. Plus some analyzed quirks about how excitable or calm she can be.

HOLY FLYING FLUSTER! LYRA IS MIKU HATSUNE!

Well fuck me sideways, I've been up for the last 4 hours and had this one chance to watch MLP during its premier on an episode I was looking forward to and I completely forget about it until the episode is half over. I wouldn't mind having to wait the next few hours for an HD upload online except my day is gonna be chock full of stuff to do so I most likely won't have a chance to watch it until tomorrow. I suck sometimes.

First world problems.

That episode was hella fun!

To think I considered skipping apple family related ones this season. Anyways there were so many great moments. The cave part and Pinkie's photos down the waterfall were probably my favorites. This was also a great episode for things that made me laugh harder than they probably should have like the random squirrel stuck to the tree. And I loved Golden Delicious' little cats.

As for the ending I figured it'd turn out Ponka and AJ weren't really related so I actually liked how they went with "who the fuck knows lol" instead. I'm curious about what you guys thought about this though.

Also because I don't like leaving posts that are a just a spoiler button to people avoiding spoilers for now I'll post the colored version of the thing I posted yesterday.

Crimson looks like she has my problem with Flight to the Finish, episode I've been looking forward to for a while but I missed it (slept through it and didn't wake up until they were all on the train later…..fucking sleep). So I suppose I'll give Crimson Locks a fair chance, ahem.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOILERS BELOOOOOOOOOOOOOW, turn back now Crimson

What can I say about this episode? Well, I can already see some rage from the heavily implied family between Pinkie Pie and Applejack (they didn't say it directly, but I think they're hinting at something). I can already see a certain KYM Image Gallery Reg about to start screaming that the word of Faust has been raped and that the show has jumped the shark again. So to a lot of people ApplePie shipping has been ruined forever for them, where to everyone else it was only made BETTER Muwahahahahaha bring on the ince-wait what?

Anyways onto the episode itself. I liked it, don't know how I compare it to other season 4 episodes but I can easily say the gags made me laugh a lot more than the other episodes. But like they say, funnier doesn't always = Better. So I'll watch it again after work tonight to see how it holds up. Some decent running gags here like the fucking Eagle ('MURICA! Swooping down and killing everything), Pinkie Pie and her scrapbook, Applebloom being adorable although the Twilightlicious reference made me feel slightly uncomfortable but if it weren't for Applebloom being adorable there I probably would've groaned from the reference. I really liked how this episode showed just what it would be like to be a part of the Applefamily and that they're not a bunch of inbred cousin fucking hicks.

The Song (Three episodes in a row, I'm loving this) was great, a lot better than the animatic shown at Comic Con considering you know….it wasn't shown over a projector and there weren't bronies cheering the second Pinkie Pie started singing. The ending just seemed a little too safe for a plot like this "Oh, there's really no evidence to prove you're an apple….but there's no evidence to prove you're NOT an apple." I think the fandom could've handled a "Well, turns out you are NOT related to the Apple family as the Pie's related to the Apples are the Pie family from Fillydelphia. But you'll always be a part of the Apple family where it counts." Cue group hug. One of my only real gripes with the episode was about how Applejack was like "OH yeah, I don't want to say this in front of those filthy casuals but us Apples are THE BEST family in all of Equestria" just seemed a little out of place for Applepone.

Also, missed opportunity for a Pinkie Pie family cameo. But don't worry, we'll be getting an episode with Pinkie Pie's sister this season lol spoilers. Also….Pinkie Pie made a Duck face….I lost a little respect for her.

@Pinkie Apple Pie: Pinkie no.

But yeah, that's a pretty cool episode. Fantastic song, for one thing.

"So what you're saying is, if I have the courage to jump, then the parachute will open… Woah, that… is… Deep…"

@Pinkie Apple Pie: Fun episode, loved the tunnel part, I guess the episode didn't feel as enjoyable because throughout it I knew the status quo was going to cause the whole plot of the episode to be either a cop-out or indefinite, and although I'm glad it wasn't a cop-out all together.. It still kind of was… I guess I was hoping they were going to surprise me, but alas… cartoon status quo strikes again.

I don’t know if you guys know this, but the brony documentary “Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony” is on Netflix. My dad found it and wanted to watch it with me since he knows I watch the show and he wanted to know more about bronies. I was nervous because I don’t remember anyone saying anything good about that documentary. So we watched it, me, my dad, and my mom. It was awkward, but it wasn’t that bad really. My dad said that he learned a lot about bronies. I don’t think he quite gets it, but he’s close enough.

@New episode
I like Apple family episodes, I also like Pinkie Pie episodes, and I loved this episode. It might even be my favorite Apple family episode yet. The song was great too.
Why would Applebloom think that her cousin would also be her sister?

@New Episode
Can it be? An Applejack episode that doesn't center around apples? Now if only we could get an Applejack episode that doesn't center around apples or the Apple Family--that's asking too much though.

I found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable episode--probably the best Applejack episode in a while. It had plenty of gags, with my favorites being the bonnet gag and the TLC Hoarders lady (who, evidently was voiced by Peter New). There was also the light rustling of fanon with the semi-confirmation of Apple-Pie relations. I liked it. Didn't go far enough to completely change things, but didn't seem like a waste of time either.

I was a little confused why, instead of going on a long trip, they couldn't have simply requested another copy of the genealogy that wasn't blurred. It's not like they only keep one copy, is it? I know that would have sunk the plot, but wouldn't that have been cool? Lead us to believe that they're going to go on this long trip only to pull the rug out from under us and subvert it with a quick letter to the Canterlot Archives.

I wish they'd subvert stuff more often, like the waterfall gag. That's been done so much, even subverting it is getting cliche. Subverting stuff not only keeps us on our toes but can provide for far more humor than just a simple gag can.

7.7/10.

@Rustled Jimmies
I hate it when fanfics piss me off. Why, Exit Through Canterlot? Why must you implement one of the worst justice systems I have ever seen. One that even Tyrantlestia would cringe at. How could the author think that the police issuing summary punishments, there being no court system to speak of, and self-defense being illegal would be a good idea?
